Re: Looking for a smith who can cut me a new chamber
As Bill mentioned Bob Green is an excellent smith and does great work. But I will mention that with the round count you have thru the barrel I would recommend purchasing a new versus a rechambered. Something else to consider is some gunsmith's won't rechamber a barrel with a high round count due to ...

Re: 55 grain Berger Chamber Question/Concerns
Apology accepted. In my opinion i wouldn't over think things on the reamer design. I have tested out many 20 caliber cartridges and even designed a few wildcats of my own. If you really want to go with a custom 204 Ruger reamer designed for the 55 berger bullets i would recommend contacting the good...

Re: 55 grain Berger Chamber Question/Concerns
sounds like you have it all figured out which begs the question of why ask in the first place.

Re: 55 grain Berger Chamber Question/Concerns
the sammi spec reamers typically have a very long throat which would be good for use with the 55 grain berger bullets. There are many different variations of 204 ruger reamers on the market but i would think you would want at least .070 freebore at a minimum. If you don't mind me asking why are you ...

Re: Cooper Model 21 chamber
Travelor, I don't blame you for being upset, i would feel the same way. When you spend the money for a semi custom type rifle like a Cooper you expect a little more and rightly so. 5 months wait is more than enough time for them to complete a simple rebarrel job, especially considering it was a mist...

Re: WANTED: 2230 or X-terminator powder
I haven't seen any of the 2230 or X-terminator powder (exactly the same powders in different packaging) available retail for over 2 years now. Last i heard they had sustained a fire in the plant where those powders are made. I have an 8lb jug that i could part with if you are ever in the area (NE In...

Re: Savage questions
There are lots of different ways to form the 20 Nitro brass, depends if you have a set of 6 or 22 BR bushing dies already or not. You can also accomplish it with a 22BR FL die and series of bushing changes in a 20 Nitro bushing die. The easiest way to do it is running the brass thru a FL 22 BR die a...

Re: Savage questions
those speeds are slow compared to the full potential of the 20 Nitro. I believe that fireform load was 30.5 grains. I have successfully pushed the 39 sierra's to 4,335 fps during testing for that cartridge (there was more room to go, no pressure signs at 4,335). Keep in mind that cartridge is based ...

Re: Savage questions
http://i62.tinypic.com/29c2qdh.jpg Here is a look at the Chrony reading from my 20 Nitro cartridge built on a Savage model 12Target action. In this rifle i had to change the firing pin spring to a 32 lb spring and reset the firing pin protrusion to get rid of a cratering problem. As you can see it ...

Re: Savage questions
The heavier spring got rid of my cratering problem. The factory spring was kind of weak so it was a big improvement for my rifle. Others mileage may vary, in the past i haven't had problems with any of my savage's so it doesn't necessarily affect all of them.

Re: Savage questions
if you have access to Tula or Wolf Small Rifle magnum primers give those a try, i switched over to them about 4 years ago and have never looked back, lower es than with the Rem 7 1/2 primers. I would also recommend changing out the firing pin spring in your savage bolt. I recently had a Savage model...

Re: Fl sizing
in my experience there isn't necessarily a set number of firings before its time to full length size. There are many factors that can have an impact on this: is this a factory chamber or a custom, how hot are you loading it, etc.... With a minimum spec custom chamber like i have on my 20SCC chambere...

Re: Cooper Model 21 chamber
if the brass won't chamber after full length sizing I would say you have an excessively oversized chamber most likely. If it was me I would scrap that brass and start over with new, of course you might ask Cooper to pay for replacing the brass as well.

Re: Cooper Model 21 chamber
did they ever give you an actual answer as to what the problem was? As Rick mentioned in an earlier post it sure sounds like they have a problem with the reamer wandering. I bought a rifle a couple years ago that was supposed to be in like new condition and just rebarreled, when it arrived i was ins...
