Re: 204 ruger lever action
I do have one.A K1V Ruger in 204.For reasons unknown to me,they no longer offer the 204 in the varmint model.

Re: Neck Sizing poi change
Starting out with a new gun and virgin brass,I would load below max by a grain or so,depending on caliber, experience, and others input on loads, and seat bullets at different OAL by .020 increments.Looking for best group at OAL,then necksize and bump up powder a couple tenths for the load that grouped...

Re: My handloads stink up the entire West Coast...
Two things about the brass.I.deburr the flash holes, and square up the case mouths with your trimmer. You want a uniform length of neck for consistant bullet tention. As suggested,go to a heavier bullet ie,32,35,39gr.Seat the bullets out to 2.350 OAL,and go up and down from there.I think weighing the b...

Re: Neck Sizing poi change
All else being equal, the reduced volume of the FL sized case would create more pressure, thus, more velocity.A matter of case volume.

Square ones,3/4",and round 1".Also depends on the taper of the jag you are using.

Re: inconsistent F/L sizing
Since your FL sizing is already caming over in your press, the only suggestions I would try is a thinner shell holder,or a small base die,but first I would use a bump shoulder gauge (Sinclair),to measure before and after sizing, plus check the cases that have been fired in the Cooper. Most custom and s...

Re: 40 Grain Bergers and Varget
I have loaded and shot a box of them out of my LRPV with good results.I just got a little better groups with the 39gr Sie BKs,and wanted the ballistic tip bullet for terminal results.Work up from 27gr of Varget to max.OAL 2.350 worked, but you could try factory seating at 2.250,and go up.

Re: BL-C(2) and temperature
I haven't used BL-C (2) with Sie 39gr BKs,but I have loaded a good bit with the 32 gr Sie in my 204 ruger, with good results ,up to 30grs.For temperature considerations I switched to IMR 8208 XBR (the least sensitive powder available)with the 32 gr Sie and 28.5 gr of the XBR I have sub 1/2" grou...

Re: 20 VarTarg bullet weight
I would load both. Most calm days,(wind under 15mph),The 32gr will give spectacular results on skippy. The 39gr has great wind bucking ability, and shots beyond 400yds are possible. It may not stay with the 204ruger,but only gives up a couple hundred FPS.

Re: Shiney new .204 (do not view after eating)
Check out the loads in the Hodgdon 2010 loading Magazine.Has loads with the IMR 8208 XBR powder,(my first choice).Varget and H4895 work well,as do many others.Load I used last month, out west ,was 28gr of Varget ,Sie 39gr BK,Rem 71/2 primer OAL 2.355.Bullet tension .002-.003.With the Sie 32gr BK I us...

Re: pressure signs ???
Adam,I had excessive cratering in a new Savage LRPV,with all factory ammo, and moderate reloads. No pressure sign,so I knew the firing pin to hole dimention was bad(should never have left the factory).I sent pics to customer service and the send a UPS pick up order for my gun. They installed a new bolt...

Re: Hornady Brass Quality
I'm finding simular issues with Hornady brass from factory rounds fired in my guns.I use a Lee hand priming toll for all my rifle priming, and about one of ten hornady cases will not go into the case holder, while others are so loose, you think you have an oversized shell holder.I've settled on Winches...
