Re: scope mounting
Go to the Ruger INC site. They have rings in at least three different heights. If they are fairly new, they will exchange them, otherwise buy the next higher size locally or from the factory(customer service)

Flat based bullets can cause more shaving when seating than the boat tail.

Will do.BTW.in the field this year, the Berger 50gr HPs were not giving the terminal splash effect the VMax or Blitz Kings were.Accurate though.

Re: Twist rate for 50 & 55 grain bullets
Berger recomends a 1:8 twist for their 55s.A friend just had a 1:9 twist installed on a 204 LRPV,but hasn't had a chance to work up heavier than 40gr loads. His first groups were under 1/2",with loads he had for a factory barreled LRPV,Sie 39 BK OAL 2.350,WW brass and 27 gr Varget,Rem 71/2 prime...

Can't fault that, with dogtown bullets.I'd try a COL of 2.330 just to see what happens.

Re: 3rd PD hunt of the year--some graphic pics--MORE PICS ADDED
OK, somewhat of a stupid question as I have never been able to hunt PD's and I don't know that they even exist in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Anyway, what do you do with the dead ones? Leave for scavengers or predators, or something else? I always tell "the other people",ie(those tha...

Early in the morning,I'm liable to do strange things.Sorry.Actually I wasn't yelling, just poor eyesight.

Re: first loads from new unfired brass
BACK OFF THE LOAD TO THE MID RANGE, FOR THE POWDER AND BULLET.SEAT THE BULLET TO RECOMMENDED OAL SPECS.CLEAN THE CHAMBER AREA AND IF YOU CAN,EXAMINE WITH A LIGHT AS BEST YOU CAN.AFTER FIRING,EXAMINE THE CASE WITH MAGNIFICATION, FOR ANY SCRATCHES ON THE BODY,AS WELL AS THE HEAD.CHECK TO SEE IF THE PR...

Re: 204 For Problem Animal Controle
I agree with RYUTZY.Don't know if you can buy a factory rifle with a faster twist than 1:12.Those animals are tough. The Berger 50 or 55 gr holowpoint should do the job,but you need a 1:10 for the 50gr and 1:8 recomended for the 55gr.If you can only get a 1:12 twist,I would prefer HPs,otherwise a Sie...

Did you mean 46.2 gr instead of 26.2 ?ryutzy wrote:I've had great luck with H414 with 75g Hornady HP out of a Ruger 26" barrel. I was using 26.2grains with the bullet seated to touch the lands. Fairly stout load and I am getting 3542 FPS.
