Re: Brass from different manufacturers for reloading?

Well, I'm still yet to check the prices of brass here in Australia - maybe in the end it will become a simple case of economics. The problem is I know what I am like and I will want to make sure I have "no excuses".

Thanks.

Brass from different manufacturers for reloading?

Hi and thanks for you advice in advance. I want to start loading for my Savage model 12 LRPV. I have NEVER loaded before. I have about 150 shells that I have kept from factory Hornady and Federal ammunition. Can I use this brass from differing manufacturers to work up a single load using 39gn SB's? ...

Savage Model 12 VLP - Magazine Problem and 5 Rounds .204

Hi All, Recently I have had a problem with the Magazine on my Savage Model 12 Varminter Low Profile. The 4th round in the magazine (or top round - last loaded round) has been jumping out of the magazine as I push the action forward to chamber a cartridge. If I remember correctly I did read many moon...

Re: Cleaning a stainless steel barrel

Hey, I have the same rifle and use the Boretech Eliminator (as per it's instructions) with patches and a nylon brush. So far it has been really great. Do a google on the product and you will see the great feedback it produces. All I can say is that I have been thoroughly impressed with it. The only ...

Remington Model 700 VS SF II VS. Savage Model 12 LRPV DBM?

Hi all, A shooting buddy of mine is selling his .308 and moving UP to the .204 ;) We are after some information on two specific rifles. In particular it is very hard to find reviews or much info on the Remington Model 700 VS SFII - of which he is very keen. The other rifle under consideration is the...

Re: Shooting Advice and Technique

Thanks again for the great advice guys. I went out the other night and dropped two from two... all out a good ratio but unfortunately they were not at long ranges. Still, it gives me a little confidence - and admittadly I wasn't as overexcited either. For those that have been following this thread, ...

Re: Shooting Advice and Technique

Thanks all for the suggestions. Parallax is always going to be a small problem in this scenario. Having to spot the fox, steady and then shoot quickly - most occasions won't allow for any adjustment. Thus the 'average' setting of around 150m. Sam from Perth - G'day and thanks. The simple things are ...

Shooting Advice and Technique

Hi all. Equipment - Savage VLP .204 and Bushnell elite 4200 4 -16 x 50, Harris Bi Pod. I'm reasonably new to this sport but if possible I'd like some advice from some experienced shooters. I've been doing some fox spotlighting from the roof of a ute in the s/west of Australia with reasonable success...

Re: Super accurate factory 204? Your opinions?

Hi,

I recently purchased a Savage model 12 VLP. So far I couldn't be happier with the rifle, trigger and it's overall accuracy.

Sofar, mine shoots the Hornady 32g the best.

Good luck.

Re: Best Factory Ammo for Savage Model 12 VLP? Foxing.

Just a quick update after my initial testing. My best groups have come from the Hornady 32g followed closely by the Federal 32g. My best group with the Hornady (without measuring) was just over .5 of an inch - and I do mean just over. My worst groups came from the Winchester 32g. As yet, I haven't r...

Re: Best Factory Ammo for Savage Model 12 VLP? Foxing.

jo191145 - again, priceless information. Thanks. I just wish my local shop was as forthcoming with information. Have you heard of or do you use Bore Tech Eliminator for cleaning? There is an interesting article on it which can be found here at www.hss.net.au/boretech/aushoot2006.html . I might start...
