Re: Ruger #1 .204 Range Report.
:D Range 2: Everything comes together! Ruger Number 1 with all mods now shoots like one of the best rifles I own. Actions Adjusted Hicks device as recommended in private mail above. Moved target range to 100 yards. Shooting in zero winds unlike 10 knot winds (measured last time). Found light R#1 unl...

Re: Duh! Some times are great notion.
Also, I would have to fight the desire to shoot the wind spinners to see how fast I could make it go!  Gary I already thought of that, having witnessed one expert hunter shoot a hole in the leg of his sun cover. So for some shooting partners, I would include a nice piece of HY100 as armo...

Duh! Some times are great notion.
I have a ballistics computer and a portable weather meter that gives me humitidy, wind velocity, temperature, altitude or baro pressure, etc. This along with range data from my laser R/F theoretically will give me the information to adjust my scope for any range to a PD or sqirrel. Fundamental probl...

Re: Leupold customer service
I bought my last Leupold about 15 years ago. Mounted the scope, a 30mm tube variable, on my rebarreled Mark V in .338 Dakota. It seemed to move its zero on occasion for no apparent reason. I took it back to the FFL whence it came and asked him to have it checked. It came back after a month or so wit...

Re: Carry handgun for calling predators in case a cougar attacks
For personal protection against something that could eat you, I recommend the heaviest round you can hit accurately with and can carry conveniently. I load two pistol rounds 45 ACP and 44 magnum. The later I use in a scoped Smith 629 and a Ruger 77/44. The latter with heavy 44 Mag rounds makes a ver...

Re: Ruger #1 .204 Range Report.
Well, after thinking about it all night, I think I have the solution to the above. I installed the Hicks device in the rifle. This allows the shooter to adjust the tension on the bottom of the barrel. Right now the Hicks device is totally backed off with no tension on the barrel. My recollection is ...

Ruger #1 .204 Range Report.
Looking forward to a range report - or better yet - seeing it in action Critter! :D OK, Here it is: Good News: Took it to a friends private range. Shot it at 25 and 50 yards. It seems to shoot really well with loads developed for my M700 custom. Put a varmint simulator (water filled plastic bottle)...

Re: Muzzle Brake for 7mm WSM
I load my 7mm WSM with 180 Berger VLDs. In a light rifle recoil is similar to .30-06 with 180 grain bullet. Recoil in a heavy (Sniper weight) rifle is not an issue. Same tecnology with .260 (AKA 6.5-308) reduces felt recoil to insignificant. I have barrel threaded for either Muzzle brake or Barrel n...

Re: 270 WSM
In my view there is nothing seriously wrong with the .270 except for the lack of availibility of bullet variation. Something that the 7 WSM does really well. http://www.ar10t.com/components/com_joomgallery/img_pictures/complete_rifles_1/7wsma_1_20100111_1753371192.jpg Problem is for some reason Winc...

Re: 7mm Mag Question
Bitman: You are correct. The Laws of Physics are strictly enforced......... ;) Of course, Rick is correct. However, given the performance of these high BC bullets and the relatively mild recoil of the 7mm WSM when compared to .30 RUM or similar. Also, the 18# weight of that rifle helps a lot.

Re: Barrel Quality????
Gad, has it been since April 2008 that I put my R#1 .204 in the gun safe and didn't look at it? Ok, I have a little vacation time coming, I will make a commitment to get that and my AR-10 with the new SN-3 1.8-10 Compact up to the range for sighting in and testing, during the Holidays. Had to get Le...

Re: Reloading with a progressive press
Two things about progressive reloaders. 1.) I hate handling those small cases four times on a single stage press. 2.) I don't trust the progressives powder system to weigh ball powder in my rifle cases. I prefer a auto scale and then to Co-Ax for accurate bullet seating. So, I use my DILLON 650 to d...

Re: 7mm Mag Question
Of course, another way to moderate ballistic performance in a 7 mag is to increase bullet weight. Now I know that was not your question, but having sky high BCs in a 7 mag really allows for radical performance enhancement at long range and reasonably good accuracy. Here are bullets (shown with .30 1...

Re: Leica BRF on Squirrels
Since I got it on the paper, been working on my Johnny Popper, getting the pasture mowed.
Need to get back to the range and tune the Hicks device. Also have 1.8-10x39 Compact on .17HMR Cooper.
No pressure to get Ruger working as no one has invited me on a hunt!
