Re: Tell us about yourself...

Welcome Quoddy, That should be a Very Nice rig that you are getting (have to admit I'm a little jealous). You have already made all the right decisions. 204 is a very lovable cartridge, and Cooper and Swarovski both have excellent reputations. I hope it meets your expectations and look forward to dr...

Re: Lil' Frustrated

Bad luck Song Dog.

I suffer from the same problem, I get all excited and yank the trigger.

Here's hoping you get some porch shooting success soon.

Re: .204 ruger on a deer?

Ethics (like Values, Morals etc.) are a personal thing that everyone develops over time. The question that us hunters must answer is this. Is it acceptable to cause pain to the animals that we hunt? For me it is not. Because of this I do not pull the trigger unless I am confident that a hit that wil...

Re: New rimfire scopes

A couple of nice rigs Gary. I wish we could still have semi autos in Oz. sigh... A friends' Dad had one when I was a kid and I only ever used it once. I always wanted to get one but John Howard declared me (and all Australians) unfit to have semi autos before I was old enough to buy one. I've got a ...

Re: Rabbit Hunting Aussie Style - With Exploding Bunny Video

Sweet work with the vid, mate. And the shooting too of course. Was the long shot fox very damaged by the SBK after that distance? I imagine after losing a lot of velocity over that distance shot placement would have been pretty important to effect the kill? Was the exploding bunny shot with the 204 ...

Re: Will changing brass change point of impact?

Thanks for your advice John. Your post sent me scurrying back to my load data and you are dead right. 28.5 gr of AR2206H (or H4895) would be stupidly over maximum. I was looking at my data for the 26 gr Varmint Grenade when I wrote that post. The highest load I have tested with the 40 gr Vmax was 27...

Will changing brass change point of impact?

This may have been covered before but I couldn't find an answer with a search. Please point me to an exiting post if you can. I have been shooting loads with Hornady brass and have just bought 100 Remington cases. Using the same load with the new brass, should I expect a change in POI? More importan...

Re: New personal best - rabbit taken from 520 m

Factory ammo here costs AU$1.50 per round so I only bought a couple of boxes when I picked up the rifle. I reload the Hornady brass. 27.5 gr AR2206H 40 gr Vmax COAL=2.288" This load groups around .4 to .5". The iPhone app sounds useful, except a lot of the places I shoot have limited mobil...

New personal best - rabbit taken from 520 m

A farming friend was very keen for me to have a go at the rabbits around some disused buildings on his property. The plan was to check it out during the day, find a good spot to set up and come back that evening with the Tikka. It was late November and very hot so I didn't expect to see any bunny's,...

Re: Tikka T3 204 Varmint rifle

I assume you have got an answer from somewhere else or moved on by now, but someone else may have the same question... I bought a Tikka T3 Varmint SS in .204 in May and have put about 400 rounds through it. A very useful rifle review (.22/250 calibre though) can be found at the link below. http://au...

Re: Tell us about yourself...

On your comment about being a 'greenie' and not shooting roo's......I've often wondered about the humane effect of such a large animal being smacked with such a light high speed bullet such as a 40gr .204. Seems like a more suitable caliber would be "deer calibers", but then again, I'm on...

Re: Tell us about yourself...

Hi, my name is Sam and I live in Perth WA (that's Western Australia, not Washington). Have been reading this forum for ages and have got a lot of great info out of it. Bit of background below, and I look forward to contributing something soon. After a childhood spent shooting rabbits on our farm wit...
