Re: first reloads/groups with my Cooper

Went out again today and repeated the 28.0 of Benchmark. It was very similar with a 3 shot group of .284". Looks like I'll be staying here! May tinker with the OAL to see if anything improves or worsens... These "warm" days are gettin me anxious for the groundhogs! Bring 'em out http:...

first reloads/groups with my Cooper

Took the Cooper Model 21 out again today for the first time with reloads. I was using Benchmark powder, 32 grain SBK, and Federal 205M primers. My OAL is 2.235. Here is what I got today! http://i857.photobucket.com/albums/ab139/jdefranc938/IMG_1129.jpg 3 shot group with 26.0 grains http://i857.photo...

Re: Cooper model 21 or others?

Well, personally I like the matte scopes on the Coopers. But it's your rifle so you can set it up any way you like! I believe you are correct in the fact that Leupold doesn't make the gloss low rings. And it looks like the low rings would fit with that scope but it would be getting pretty close. Jus...

Re: Tell us about yourself...

Hey guys! Most of you all probably recognize me by now but I never actually did this to introduce myself since I joined back in Nov. Anyway, my name is Jeff and I'm from Southwestern PA. I've lived on a farm my whole life and have been into hunting and shooting for as long as I can remember. The onl...

Re: Cooper model 21 or others?

Yep i agree. I decided on the Cooper 21 and the pics of the beastly rig are further up on this page. I also traded in my M77 204 and picked up the CZ 527 Varminter in 204 as well in it's place. The Cooper has already made groups sub 1/2" at 100 yds with factory ammo. I don't expect the CZ to do...

Re: CZ 527 rings

The CZ screws might be metric, best to check it out with a thread gauge. If they are, then the Leupold Torx screws won't work. I'm betting they use SAE screws though, and the Torx will work just fine. The Leupold rings are usually a wee bit better in quality, the internal surfaces only need burnish...

CZ 527 rings

Hey guys, just picked up a 527 Varminter the other day in 204. Has anyone put on the Leupold rings instead of the ones CZ gives you? Is there any benefit to doing this, as the Leupolds are $72? Also, is it possible to use leupolds torx screws in the supplied CZ rings instead of the original screws?

Re: yet another stuck case

Thanks! From what i've been seeing and reading, it sounds like the problem may very well be coming from the vent hole or the die just being dirty. When I get back home in a couple of weeks I will break it down and give it a good cleaning and let you know how it goes. In the meantime keep the suggest...

I was thinkin about that... Is it a problem if the lock ring is around where the hole is?

Re: yet another stuck case

I'm going to be out of town for the next 2 weeks, so I won't be able to adjust/check anything until the first weekend of March. It's just odd because I've had this problem in 2 different RCBS dies and in 1 Redding die. This makes me think it had somethin to do with the M77 chamber (bad manufacturing...

Re: yet another stuck case

I cant get much closer with the camera I have. It gets kind of blurry. Yes it is a 204. When I raised the shell into the die it was very rough and "jumpy".

Re: Cooper model 21 or others?

Took it out again today and shot a VERY tight group (slightly bigger than the size of one hole) with the factory loads. I love this rifle!!! :D

Re: Cooper model 21 or others?

First trip out yesterday was with the Hornady 32gr V-Max just to break it in and get some brass. It shot just over 1/2" 3 shot group. And yes, compared to the M77 (which is now gone and a CZ 527 Varminter took it's place) I am much happier.
