Re: what powder to use in short barrel?
I don't have any experience with an 18" .204 but you're not getting a lotta help here, so I thought I'd chime in. Pmax occurs about two inches down the barrel so I don't think a shorter rifle barrel of itself makes a powder change necessary compared to a "normal" length barrel. Noneth...

Re: Scales...Whats are we using?
I bought an RCBS Range Master 750. Within a couple of months it began failing to hold zero so I sent it back. Their customer service was great to deal with and the new scale they replaced it with has been perfect. I was suspicious of it when it first came back so I kept checking it against an RCBS 5...

Re: Do I have a HOT batch of RL7 powder
If you're having hard bolt lift caused by excessive pressure, your brass also should be showing evidence of smear. The reason an overpressure causes stiff bolt lift is because the high pressure causes the brass to flow into the extractor/ejector depression. This causes the fired case to bind against...

Re: NEW 20 Caliber 37 Grain Bullets
You should call them "open tip match" bullets (OTM) instead of "small hollowpoint." That's the term DoD uses for hollowpoint sniper rifle ammo so's the Anarchy International dimwits don't get their knickers in a twist.

Re: Standard Deviation
In a nutshell, SD is a calculation of how close your typical load's MV tends to be to the average MV of all your loads. The lower the SD, the more tightly they're all clustered around that magical average MV number. SD is macht nichts at short range but at longer ranges, it's King Schiznit. That's b...

Re: Load question.
If you could chronograph the two loads, change your OAL to match the factory load, then tweak your handload's charge to match the factory round's velocity, the two should shoot pretty identically. And once you get there, it wouldn't hurt a thing to tweak that OAL a little further to see if it gets b...

Re: .20 cal 55 gr Berger in a neck down .223 WSSM
If you're set on a .20, I think the .20BR is a better option. It's a wildcat of the 6mm Norma BR which, along with its wildcats, is dominating 600 yard benchrest. You can coax just about anything based on the 6BR into being hyper-accurate. You might want to check out the Varmint Hunters dot Com foru...

The rule of thumb for limiting runout is that your shank seating depth should be no less than the diameter of the bullet.

Re: Scope Question for Precision Shooting
Hedge, I don't know what sorts of terrain you're hunting on but if you're hunting in woodlands, I don't see the need for that much magnification. None of the guys I run with use anything higher than 9 to 12 on the high magnification for coyotes. But it's all woodlands interspersed with pasture where...

Re: Why boat tail or flat base?
Boattailed bullet have better aerodynamics, which translates to a higher BC and better long-distance flight characteristics. Flat base bullets carry more of their weight nearer their perimeter, which increases stability. And a flat base bullet is simpler to manufacture, which means they tend to have...

I like 'em.
These are a couple of my better 3-shot groups using 32-gr Noslers @200 yards:

The upper group measures 5/16" C-C, 0.15 MoA. The lower measures 11/64" C-C, 0.08 MoA.

Glen, justine67 is a spambot. The website it was hawking distributes bootlegged copies of movies, mostly recorded on cell phone cameras by theater-goers in Russia. I'll wager it registered from one of these IP addresses: 72.27.90.41, 208.131.191.95, 208.131.191.95, 222.186.17.98 or 91.210.106.138 an...

Re: Reloading dies
I neck size only with a Lee collet neck die and bump the shoulder when it's needed with a Redding body die. That tightened my groups noticeably over when I used to do FLS sizing.
