Re: Coated bullets

hBN is hexagonal boron nitride. The hexagonal part is important because boron also comes in a cubic form that's used as an industrial abrasive. You don't want that stuff on your bullets. WS2 is tungsten disulfide ("W" is the atomic symbol for tungsten). It's sometimes called DanZac ...

Re: Coated bullets

I coat .204s and .243WSSMs. I started out with WS2 (AKA DanZac) and am transitioning to hBN. I can't say coated bullets have any effect on accuracy, pro or con, except that you can shoot longer without cleaning before the buildup affects it, and it holds down barrel temps in a long session so you ha...

Re: pressure signs ???

Fred, nice photo lineup for clarity. Excellent post showing the effects of primer flattening for the newer guys. :D Thanks, Rick. I only ever steal the good stuff. Thanks alot guys :D I'm using CCI BR4 primers as they are giving me the best groups. I would have thaught also that being a c...

Re: pressure signs ???

Pressure gets higher as you move right. http://www.larrywillis.com/pressure%20signs.jpg Notice how the ring between the primer and the rim gets narrower and shallower as you move right, indicating the primer is getting flatter. Notice, too, there is no cratering in the leftmost round. Second leftmos...

Re: Manual decapping rod for .204?

Some are made for non-press use and are hardened to better withstand hammering. The regular rods -- like the threaded ones for presses -- peen down pretty quickly.

Nonetheless, I bought a .22 Lee decapping pin today and I'm going to trim it down on a bench grinder.

Re: Manual decapping rod for .204?

Manual, meaning it doesn't go in a press. You stick it down the case neck, fish around until it settles in the detente in the back of the primer, then you whack it with a hammer.

Manual decapping rod for .204?

Who makes/sells a manual decapping rod that'll fit through the neck of the .204? I can't seem to find one.

Re: Garmin GPS

I have a Garmin Nuvi 755T and I'd probably buy another of the same if this one were stolen. It does what it's supposed to do, for the better part, but I have had a few problems. If you turn off of your programmed route and take a short detour, like pulling off an Interstate interchange for gas, when...

You don't mention MV so I assumed 4000 fps. This is from QuickTarget. HoB is 1.5", zero is 200 yards. ·Yards fps in. ----------------- | __0 4000 -1.5 | _25 3861 -0.7 | _50 3726 -0.1 | _75 3593 +0.4 | 100 3458 +0.7 | 125 3327 +0.8 M 129 3306 +0.9 | 150 3193 +0.8 | 175 3060 +0.5 X 200 2931 0....

Re: Metal re-action

Ray P, to answer your re-action question, there's two things important to understand. 1) Except for the "precious" metals (esp. gold), all metals are inherently unstable and they want to become something else that is stable. Iron, for instance, likes to become rust. Iron, unhappy. Rust, ha...

Re: hBN - Bullet Coating

I've switched from WS2 to hBN but the process is identical. I just degrease the bullets, dry them and put them in the rotary tumbler with the boron powder. If you have a vibrating tumbler, you'll probably need to add BBs or steel shot. I've never used them in my Thumler lapidary tumbler and the resu...

Re: 32 BK hitting target sideways.

okey, considering it's happening so infrequently and with two different rifles, I can't imagine it'd be either your barrels or your load. Is it possible something like this might be slipping past your QC? http://img687.imageshack.us/img687/6728/rbadbullet.jpg I'm referring to the blemish in the jack...

Re: 204 muzzle breaks

Electronic cups don't stop you getting slapped by the muzzle blast that's redirected sideways out of the guy next to you's gun if he's running an effective brake. Nothing I hate more than going to the public range and getting a lane next to a guy with an AR and a really good brake. I've heard there ...

Re: G7 ballistic coefficients

I should have posted this earlier. This is the exact shape and dimensions of the mathematical bullet used in G1 calculations: http://www.frfrogspad.com/g1.gif It also actually was the shape an artillery round from the late 1800s. This is the exact shape and dimensions of the mathematical model of a ...
