Re: i got growled at.
Some years ago I spent an afternoon with the late Mr. Ronnie Bremner, founder and then curator of the Loch Ness Monster Exhibit and Museum in Drumnadrochit, Scotland. He'd overheard me mentioning to another tourist in the museum's gift shop that I had a copy of a book on Nessie written by the equall...

WOW Fred, You were quick off the mark there. It was only May when you decided to do that. LOL.Ken. The bench grinder didn't work, and I try not to have more than one idea per quarter (wouldn't want to jeopardize my membership in the Underachiever's Society of America) so I hadda wait on the th...

Re: Manual decapping rod for .204?
My other brain cell finally kicked in. I just chucked a .22 rod in an electric drill, wrapped some sandpaper around it and whittled it down to .19.

Re: BL-C(2) and temperature
Neil, I have a Savage 12 VL. All the .204 12s have a tendency to crater primers at "normal" pressures. It's because the firing pin hole in the bolt face is excessively large in relation to the firing pin. In my gun, even factory loads crater. I WS2-coat my .204 bullets, which reduces chamb...

Re: Ear plugs
I should have noted that I think all close cell polyurethane ear plugs are pretty much identical. Most any drugstore will carry polyurethane earplugs, just check the label. I wear earplugs when I shoot to protect me from the noise of my gun. I also wear cups when I shoot in a crowd to hold down on t...

Re: Coated bullets
I realize the Lock-Eze is a colloidal graphite, so does that mean I can substitute another brand in-place of Lock-Eze? Home Depot, Rona, Canadian Tire and Wal-mart do on carry Lock Eze here but they do carry another product called JIG-A-LOO Graphite lubricant. It is only in the spray can form. It c...

Re: This is what drew me to the .204
...On a sidenote, I'm betting you enjoyed shooting your 204 that day much more than that 243WSSM......right? I get all giggly shooting that .204 at a public range when the targets of the guys on either side of me look like they're patterning a scattergun. One of the RSOs at the range where I ...

This is what drew me to the .204
http://img16.imageshack.us/img16/1228/r204target.jpg Three rounds at 200 yards The holes are raggedy because it was raining. And windy. Okay, the wind didn't make the holes raggedy, but it was windy all the same. The group measures 5/16ths, 0.3125". I was tweaking seating depth and had four ot...

Re: Coated bullets
A well-conditioned barrel should be cleaned as little as possible. I use Wipeout periodically just as a reminder how little copper buildup coated bullets leave. My regular bore cleaner is Ed's Red (homemade).

Re: Ear plugs
I use DeGil DePlugs . http://www.degilsafety.com/american/pimgs/27.jpg I bought some once at the local airport. After all the years of those crummy yellow open-cell foam things the army uses, I was shocked to find an earplug that actually worked. I bought a box of 100 pairs because that was that was...

Re: Max magazine COL in .204 Savage 12?
I would just seat a bullet long in an empty case and keep seating it deeper until it fit. That way you could check to be sure it would feed smoothly into the chamber as well as fit in the magazine before you loaded up batch. Yes, I would go along with MDs recomendation, I went throught the same pro...

Re: Coated bullets
How often do they have to re-apply the Lock-Ease? As it happens, that's what I use to pre-condition my barrels when I'm shooting WS2-coated bullets. I forget where I got it, probably Wally World or Advance Auto.

Max magazine COL in .204 Savage 12?
My Savage 12 VL has an internal magazine. My caliper won't fit through the ejection port and I'm curious how you'd go about measuring its length accurately. Or if someone else already has measured theirs, I'd be interested to hear your results and your method (I figure they probably use the same har...
