Re: Remington Model 700 Safety Issues-Now what? FYI
I make no claim to know the truth of it but I've been hearing about 700s having this same problem for more than 20 years. That might well be because the Anti's have focused on this rifle, I dunno, but that sniper at the end of the video who caused his to fire by just touching the bolt looked pretty ...

Re: Berger or Nosler for the best groups from 100-200 yards?
I found the other picture I was looking for:
This one was WS2-coated 32-gr Noslers backed by 26.1 grains of RL-10X. It also was @200 yards but this one measures 0.3125" This same session, I shot four other groups 0.6" or less.

Re: Berger or Nosler for the best groups from 100-200 yards?
Three 32-grain WS2-coated Noslers driven by 26.2 grains of RL-10X
fired from my Savage 12VL on a mildly windy day.
Range was 200 yards. The group measures 0.171" C-C.
I've had several 200-yard groups less than 0.5".

Re: Primer Cratering??
I shot this this weekend: http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/7222/extractorsmear308.jpg It's Federal match brass, which is famously soft. And bolt lift effort was normal so the extractor smear does not concern me. In fact, also you can see the smear from three previous firings. The primer shows light ...

Re: Primer Cratering??
There's cratering and then there's excessive cratering. Cratering happens because high pressure causes the primer cup to flow around the firing pin and into the hole between it and the bolt face. This can happen for any or all of three reasons. First is an excessively large firing pin hole hole, whi...

Re: Electronic powder dipencers
There's an English-made unit that uses a balance beam scale: http://www.targetmasteruk.com/Wrangler John wrote:...the electronic powder dispenser seems to be a gadget that has technological appeal, but little practical advantage over the mechanical balance beam scale and powder measure.

Re: 32 grain noslers
It's all I shoot in my Savage 12VL. I'm fairly new to reloading so I have some consistency problems but the Noslers almost always shoot under 1" @200 yards, and I've had a couple of 3-shot groups under 0.3". Then again, that Savage shoots under an inch @200 w/factory ammo. I've said -- and...

Re: Stainless Steel Media
It produces brass cleaned and polished, inside and out, including the primer pockets. The other downside is that, when you're done, you have to deal with wet brass. If you're in a hurry, that can cramp your style.

Re: discrepancy in load data
Okay, that's what I thought. If there's a difference between what they've recorded on this web site, and if they faithfully reproduced the data that was in the Hodgdon manual then , that would lead me to believe the data in the Hodgdon manual you have is from a different series of tests which had sl...

Re: discrepancy in load data
The header information on this web site's load data page says it was copied from Hodgdon. Seems to me that would mean that either the Hodgdon data changed of the guy who put that note at the top of the page lied.

Re: End of my rope
Holy moley, I've never seen the Lock-Ease make the problem worse, much less cause a 5" shift in CBS @100 yards.
I'll go sit in the corner and shut up now.

Re: End of my rope
Get some Lock-Ease from Ace Hardware. It's a graphite lubricant suspended in a petroleum base. Wet a patch with it and run through your bore after cleaning. It'll reduce the shift from your CBS. Benchrest shooters and professional snipers -- guys who don't have the luxury of taking a fouler before t...

Re: weight of brass
I weigh brass when I'm doing load development just to limit the number of variables. For production hunting loads, I try too keep batches together (by box or by lot) but don't weigh.
