Re: 17 Fireball
I finished mine off in a fl die. When he said my case were too short (30 thou actually ) and I had to fireform them as if forming a wildcat I just thought that was part of the process, but no, I set the FL die too tight.

Re: 17 Fireball
my gunsmith told me the case were 3thou (from memory) too short, apparently this was normal. He recommended a lighter load with pill in the lands to fireform them before going to full loads

Re: 17 Fireball
Rick and others, just picked up my barreled action, now for a stock. In the meantime, what powders have you found best? I intend to shoot 25s mostly. How much lower do you go with a fireforming load (brass formed from 221 fireball)? It was suggested a particular powder had 13.6gns as min load and I ...

Re: Mystery ?
Hi Adam, the most likely explanation is that the bullet hit the rabbit but did not fragment. Hence it went through the length of the critter (busting bones on the way) and even exited, but leaving a very small hole that you would not notice unless you skinned the animal. I have had the same experie...

Re: 17 Fireball
Waldo, Your idea is wonderfull, but I have to live within a budget that will only allow one for now. I just need input to help make the best choice. I did buy a 17HMR last summer and I really love it in low wind 150 yards or less gopher shooting. My 204's do most of the other work out to 500 plus. ...

he got carried away.....
lost his head in fact! Since the 6/250 jumps a little too much to see the action in the scope I called "pretty sure I got him, did anyone see?" No, so we drove over to check. On the way i said "if i got him, I got him between the eyes as the reflectors were the only things I could see...

Re: 300 WSM
In mine, I got (a one time only thing, but it did happen) a 3 shot clover leaf at 100m with 65gn ADI 2209 powder, CCI magnum primer and 165gn Hornady SST . Rifle is M70 sporter laminated stock blued barrel. Hodgdon repackage and sell ADI powders but I'm sorry, I dont know which one is 2209. (Like I ...

Re: CZ - keep it or trade it?
I recommended the barrel change since I guessed your comment on the skinny little barrel meant you didnt like it. I have a factory CZ 223 that only took one development session to get great accuracy and have bought one for the action to build my 17mach fireball on. If the skinny barrel doesnt upset ...

Re: CZ - keep it or trade it?
I would rebarrel it with a medium weight (light varmint) profile barrel. like a Lilja no 5.

plus one.
this is one area I am still wary of going into. I'm thinking that if i got it wrong and overheated the case then its too soft and so would be dangerous, if not enough then not annealed and therefore effort wasted!

Re: Primmer pocket uniforming?
I havent been posting much lately but this post brings back a lot of memories. Skipper and Rick, and some others, were telling me to do this 2 years ago! I use my uniformer in a cordless drill and have the sinclair deburring tool, funnily enough. wonder where i got that advice from   I am ...

you'll find barrel break in instructions on all the custom barrel makers websites. Kreiger is one of the best I've read.
Personally I've never bothered with a factory rifle.
