Re: Projectile weight consistency

One of the things I have done out of courisoity is measuring the bearing surface length of the bullet. There are some differences. Don't know if it means a whole lot unless one is in the BR world. I started measuring base to ogive, segrating bullets by oal. So far it seems to have shrunk my groups ...

Very nicely put. Especially like the reference to a "pressure bearing". Chasing the lands on a factory 204R is physically impossible anyway. COAL should be accuracy driven, the proof should be on the paper.

Re: Load question.

Once a month? How do you survive on that? I mean, I could probably only drink beer once a month but, shoot once a month? Not sure I could do it! I'd be climbing the walls if I could only shoot once a month.............of course, I'm retired now and shoot at least three times a week, sometimes more ...

Re: Standard Deviation

In a nutshell, SD is a calculation of how close your typical load's MV tends to be to the average MV of all your loads. The lower the SD, the more tightly they're all clustered around that magical average MV number. SD is macht nichts at short range but at longer ranges, it's King Schiznit. That's ...

Re: Grooves in Brass

I'm not sure if a pocket swaging tool would help straighten that out. It looks like the pockets are slightly off center when a primer is seated. I'd contact Federal.

Re: Standard Deviation

Technically, standard deviation is the square root of the variance in a data set. The variance is the sum of the differences between each data point and the mean or average of the points divided by n-1 where n is the number of data points. In shooting, to find the variance you would need to find th...

Re: Just a quickie!

I use a Lee collet die to neck size and a Redding full length die when the cases need the shoulder set back. For seating. I use a Forster comp die.

Re: holding a group at range

Could be either. Could be the bullet, too. But, since the barrel is being cut down, it's really a non-issue until you re-work the loads for the new length. The fact that the groups vary from .25 - .50, though, tells me your load isn't stable. Have you tried running an OCW test to find the right cha...

Re: Projectile weight consistency

I don't weigh bullets but have found my accuracy has improved by measuring a bullets base to ogive. I segregate by length, not weight.

I use a Forster that I've had since 1968. Works great with all the calibers I load.

Re: Midway USA DogTown 34 Grain Bullets

Tom, that sounds good for your first attempt on the new barrel. I haven't shot IMR 4895 with 32's or 34's, so can't help there. I have shot it some with 40 v-maxes. It gave reasonably good accuracy, right at .5-.6 moa with 27.4g producing a velocity averaging at 3,800 fps in a Savage 1x12, 22"...

Re: Yeah baby, its a Flatbolt!

I agree, the older Rugers were assembled well and were tack drivers. I've owned two of the newer ones and sold both because the accuracy was dismal no matter what load and technique I tried.

Re: Midway USA DogTown 34 Grain Bullets

Barrel arrived Tuesday evening. I installed and headspaced it yesterday morning and headed to the range with some factory Winchester 34gr and four batches of test load with the 34gr Dogtowns They were pushed by IMR 4895/26.5, 26.7 26.9 and 27.1 grains. All loads seated to an OAL of 2.248". Thes...
