Re: COAL
Very good idea to measure bullets as I've found variations in some older A-Max bullets to be up to .004" from base to ogive. The newer Hornady's are much better in that respect. I've also found variations in bullet length with the Sierra Match Kings by as much as .006". If your going for t...

Re: AR Reliability
"Mobile 1" synthetic oil works excellent in the AR and a quart will last many years.

Re: COAL
I'm anal about my loads so I always trim to the shortest case, especially if its good brass thats been fully prepped and weighed.

Yea, that's a given working with the gas gun, can't push loads as hard as a bolt action.

ryutzy wrote:Excellent choice of bullet! I shoot 27.8 of H4895 with my 39 SBKs and have good results. I'm shooting an AR-15 with a 24" bull barrel and I'm getting 3700 fps grouping at .397 in.
Good info, I'll be loading for an AR heavy barrel in 204, will have to give that load a try.

Re: Why are Sierra's loads lower than others?
It might be that they go for accuracy, more than speed. OR they could just want to err on the side of caution, rather than have someone get harmed. Bill K :) You hit the nail on the head. Ammunition companies have become so liability conscious they've reduced their max loads in manuals to cover the...

Re: Horandy COL And Bullet Comparater Guage
The "O" ring trick is commonly used on the .303 case. The Enfield rifle chambers are known to be oversized. The rubber "O" ring helps to eliminate the bulge that occures just above the rim of commercial brass fired in the military chamber.

Re: OAL PROBLEMS
I've found that even Berger's can fluctuate up to .002" from base to ogive. I sort my bullets by length AND weight for all the benchrest calibers I load for. Some of the worst measurements (base to ogive) I've ever gotten were older Hornady A-Max that I've had for about 6 years, they varied up ...
