Re: 2012 Wolf License
Quick update: I've gone out three times and had conversations with multiple wolves at one of the spots. I thought hearing a tom gobble at me while turkey hunting got my blood pumping... Having wolves howling in response to my own vocalization is a rush! Long story short, I played a distress call and...

Re: 2012 Wolf License
I'll have the camera with for sure. I agree, the 6mm is probably better suited for killing the 80-90 lb critters. I thought the .20 cal Hornady 45 gr spire points might get good enough penetration to kill a wolf, but you really can't argue with an 88 grainer at 3050 fps. Should be fun and hopefully ...

Re: ? 8 x 57 mauser .323 dia
I haven't done much experimenting with my k98, but my current load is 47 grains of IMR 4064 under a 170gr Speer Hotcor. No chrono or recorded group sizes, but they seemed to shoot the best with the open sights! I figured out my load by going to reloadersnest.com

2012 Wolf License
After failing to draw a tag for the late season wolf hunt here in Minnesota, i successfully purchased a leftover license the other day when they went on sale. The early season, which runs concurrent with our firearms deer season, was surprisingly successful and about 150 of the statewide quota of 40...

Re: Just an old pic to share
Wow, where's that?? Very cool pics, the dog looks like a CHAMP. There's nothing like a good waterfowl dog that earns their dinner and even saves your butt now and again making heroic retrieves. Any recent photos?

Re: Old Powder
Thanks Bill! You mentioned the smell of the powder. Dad said that the powder has lost some of it's "rubbing alcohol" smell which is what got us wondering how potent the stuff is. I guess we really just need to put it on a chronograph and see how velocities look.
Thanks again!

Old Powder
I'm looking to load some old IMR 4831 for my 6mm Rem. In 1980 my dad bought an 8 pound canister of this stuff, and its stayed in this closed container ever since. My question is, will this powder be any less potent for any reason? How about some of the old rounds he loaded up in the early 80's that ...

Thanks for the info! For what he's using it for, he wasn't ready to spend >$1/piece for the norma or lapua stuff.

resizing 7mm-08 brass to .260
A friend of mine just bought a new Savage in .260 rem after moving out to western North Dakota. I promised to reload it for him. After committing to the .260, we see that there is a shortage of .260 brass. To resize the 7mm-08 to .260, can I just run it through a full length resizer? Or would I want...

Re: 5mm Shrike?
Certainly the 17 Hornady Hornet is a sweet little .17 caliber that should be easy to get brass for now that it is a "factory" round. But what about a year ago when the 17 hornet was still a "wildcat?" It was still every bit as cool, but there is definitely something to having a c...

Re: 5mm Shrike?
I know, they're a couple of cuties. I think they'd be good fox/cat cartridges but there's not a lot of data out there for them

5mm Shrike?
I just recently learned about a couple pretty cool wildcats. They are both based off of the FN 5.7x28mm cartridge. First is the 5mm Shrike which is a sweet little .20 cal round. The other is the 4.4x28, just necked down to .17. (The third round is an unrelated .17 skeeter) http://img.photobucket.com...
