Re: First Blood for my 204
Did you have the timney trigger installed by a gunsmith or did you DIY? I've gotta agree the trigger is the biggest downfall of the m77.

Re: Bullet Pictures
This is a picture of the Barnes X bullet I recovered from the inside of an elk that impressed me very much. I work as a Conservation Officer (Game Warden) in Minnesota. Last March I was contacted by one of our local cattle producers who had been issued a permit to shoot problem elk that had been eat...

Bullet Pictures
Do any of you guys have any good post-mortem bullet recovery pictures? (and stories) I've got an interesting bullet I pulled out of an elk at work. I'll get a picture up as soon as I get new batteries for the camera.

Re: ND dog
Thanks guys, it was a fun hunt.
songdog: Not much done to the SPS. I put a Bell and Carlson Medalist stock on it and brought the trigger down to a crisp 2.5 lbs.

ND dog
I've recently returned from our second annual coyote trip to western North Dakota. Last year the .204 won my heart when I took my friend's Rem 700 VLSS. This year saw my first kill with my upgraded 700 SPS. Overall the trip was pretty slow. High winds kept the dogs from hearing our calls... We were ...

Re: Thinking on building a 11 Twist Barrel 204
I am currently encountering problems with my Remington 700 not shooting 39 or 40 grain bullets, and from the sounds of it I'm not alone. When I get enough ambition/money I'll be getting an 11 twister. Its funny that Ruger Remington and Savage would settle on a twist rate that is just on the cusp of ...

Re: 40 gr. Key-holage
Thanks for the help, fellas. Its frusterating indeed. I haven't called the factory yet, but has anyone gotten a response from Remington or Savage? Since some Remington/Savage barrels obviously DO shoot the heavier bullets, would the factory look at a gun if you sent it in?
Thanks again,
vb

Re: 40 gr. Key-holage
I tried several things with the 39 SBKs to get them to shoot. My best group was a three shot group at .86 inches... Mostly BLC2 powder (which shoots great for my other bullets) but I did try Benchmark as well. I shot a pressure series of BLC2 from 29 to 30 grains of powder, all keyholed. The overall...

Re: 40 gr. Key-holage
No doubt. 1 in 12" is the standard twist rate for the .204, and Hornady's two main bullets are the 32 and 40 gr. VMax. The 12 twist barrel should be fine, and maybe twist isn't the issue...

40 gr. Key-holage
I've just returned from a frusterating day at the range that was cut short by a terrible key-hole problem. Today was my first day shooting my 40 gr. VMax bullets that I've loaded over BLC-2 powder. I'm shooting a Rem 700 with a 1-12" twist barrel. My first couple groups at 100 yards measured 3 ...

Re: Good enough hog hunting gun ?
The 270 is more than enough. If you use good bullets you can hunt pretty much anything in North America with it. Just ask Jack O'Connor. I think you've just got to find a bullet that you/your gun like. I won't ever shoot a big game animal with a balistic tip. (besides a tipped copper bullet) I kille...

New Brass
I've got a question for you all about new brass. Is there any point to working up a pressure series or any new load for that matter with new unformed brass? I've got a lot of new brass sitting around that I'd like to get formed to my chamber, and was wondering if its even worth working on any new lo...

Re: CZ 527 and Scope rings
Unclebob, The 4-16x50mm Monarch that I have on my rifle sits nice and low on Medium Burris Zee Rings with traditional Weaver bases. Since the Monarch has the side focus, the front bell is much smaller than other 50mm scopes with the front objective focus. Did your scope come with rings or did you b...

New coyote 700
Well, I finally got the new 700 put together and broken in. Things look promising since it was shooting groups under .5 moa during the break in process with starting loads of 32gr VMax. The gun is a Remington 700 SPS varmint. I put a Bell & Carlson Medalist stock on the gun which went on very ea...
