I just got this in an e-mail. Not sure how accurate it is but nothing would surprize me. Knew it was coming though.

Ground Hogs Can you eat em?
k, this may sound strange to some but I have been reading that you can eat ground hogs. I have been hunting all my life and have tried some rather strange things but never tried a Whistle Pig. Word is they taste like pork, not chicken suprizingly
Anyone ever tried one?

Good Size Jersey Yote
I know you guys "Out West" have a great varmint / coyote season but here in Jersey we have little. We are finnaly allowed to kill them during during some of the deer season. Our deer, although not huge range on average in State woods around 100 pounds. As you can see from the below picture,...

Re: Velocity Issue
Jim, One thing I noticed today when I went out is my tripod is rather cheap. The Chronogragh wobles when the bullet passes. I have it set 10 feet back. I am not sure if this has an effect on the situation as I am sure the bullet is though prior to the rocking but maybe it does. Today I had a 100 FPS...

Re: Velocity Issue
Rick thanks for the reply. Although I wanted to get another set of dies I was going to hold off for now anyway until I work out everythign else with this rifle. It is very accurate so far and I am going to do what I have learned from past expierence, let the rifle tell me what it likes instead of te...

Velocity Issue
I have two questions about velocity. I am loading 35 grain Berger bullets in front of 26.6 grains of benchmark lit by Federal 205 primers. Every loading document I can find shows velocity plus 3700. My average of 18 shots was only 3673? :chin: Does this seem right? Even in the favorite load section ...

Re: First Day at the Range
Thank you all for your comments. I am going to try to hone in a little closer to the best load. I also played with the seating depth a little, actually a lot and want to see what they do. I loaded them to the longest I could and still have them function in he magazine. Now I will have to see how the...

Re: What I just Learned
Gube, I just did some measuring on mine. I found that the maximum, COL I can load, to fit in the magazine, is 2.343 where it will cycle reliably. This comes to 2.015 with my comparator. I loaded five rounds at this spec and will see how they will fly next range day. Thanks for the info, and the idea.

First Day at the Range
Well today was the first day at the range with the new rifle. I was a little apprehensive as this was the first Savage I ever owned, Savage VLP 204 Ruger. I have always owned Remington Rifles and switched this time due to all the talk about their accuracy. Well I was not let down, at least by my sta...

Re: Getting started Reloading .204 Ruger....What Dies?
Greg, I am also new here but am learning as I go. I have found that the consensus for the loading die question seems to be Redding dies. Of course I found this out right after I bought RCBS dies. I am looking to get a set of competition dies next week. As for the case length gauge I cannot help you ...

Re: What I just Learned
Joe, Please ignore my ignorance but to clarify the COL is Case Overall Length so that would be from tip of the bullet to the bottom of the case correct? What is your measurment to the ogive? I measured the free bore of my rifle to be 2.071. My rounds I measure with a comparitor which is where I come...

Re: What I just Learned
Danny, I forgot to mention but he reason I spaced only .020, was at the reccomendation of Berger Bullets. They reccomeended .020 - .030 off the lands. I was using this as my starting point. Thanks again for the relply. I do hope some others chime in, not that I don't agree with your reccomendations ...

Re: What I just Learned
dannybracy; thank you for the reply. My rifle is a Savage VLP. I measured the length to the lands in the chamber to be 2.071. I loaded .020, off, my loads are 2.051. My overall length is 2.383. If I were to load to 2.250 I would be .199 of the lands. This would be to far I would think. Please let me...

What I just Learned
I just started loading for the 204 tonight. I learned a few things an will take any comments you may have. 1. After measuring my rifle I found that I am only seating the Berger 35 grain bullet about 3 10th's of an inch in the case. Is this normal. 2. Due to number one I cannot load from the clip, (S...

Re: Am I not doing enough?
Thanks you for the info. I am using RCBS dies. I will start at the range hopefully at the end of the week. Here in the north east we just got spanked with about a foot of snow. no range at least until Friday. See what happens. Once again thanks for the input.
