Re: Case Trimming
Doug...Nosler "Custom" brass comes trimmed under minimum length spec's. and I doubt you will have to trim this brass for a very long time. The shoulder angle of the .204 case does help to slow down or prevent the case from stretching as much as for example the .22-250 Rem. IMHO the Nosler ...

Re: Savage 12 firing pin bolt face questions?
In one of our posts last year a member showed in detail with pictures how to adjust the tension on the Savage firing pin spring. Might be worth looking back to find that info. Silverfox wrote about bushing his Savage, so you might get some info from him as well. I don't think you can beat advice fr...

Re: Savage 12 firing pin bolt face questions?
I did a little more digging and some books say it could be caused by a weak firing pin spring, or a oversize firing pin hole in the face of the bolt. If I suspected the oversize hole I would indeed have it bushed. But....I suspect it is the firing pin spring. :wall: It sounds (when dry fired) like i...

Savage 12 firing pin bolt face questions?
My Savage 12VLP appears (IMHO) to have a undersize firing pin diameter when compared to the inside diameter of the firing pin hole in the face of the bolt. When fired (Rem 7 1/2 primers) the resulting primer material appears to have "slightly" flowed into the portion of the face of the bol...

Here's a couple of my favorite's.....35gr. Berger with 28.0grs. of H4895 and 7 1/2 primer in WW cases O.A.L. 2.260" and for the 40gr. Berger with 25.1grs. of RL-10X with 7 1/2 primer in WW cases O.A.L. 2.260" (different Comp. micrometer setting because of the slight difference in ogive sha...

Re: Bipods
Darren.....It will mount up fine to your existing front post. But..... be sure to order a "Pod-Loc" for your "S" swivel model "Harris" bi-pod. Yes there are cheaper bi-pods (chinese copys) but the "Pod-Loc" that fits the "Harris" wont fit the other o...

Re: Scope Mounts
JD11...I dont think Leupold ("screwed up") had much of a choice considering where Savage drilled the rear mounting holes and "Leupold's" rear base design (built in windage screws). Im using a Leupold VXIII 8.5X-25X scope on my Savage 12VLP (internal mag.) and I dont have a proble...

Re: Competition dies or not / Sizing Nosler Brass
Rick is correct, and I was checking cases that were previously fireformed and was neck sizing them when I discovered that the neck die was not supporting the body of the case. I use a Sinclair concentricity guage to measure runout for loaded as well as neck runout. Semper Fi

Re: quick neck turning question.
I recently had a similar problem and removed the expander from my die and compared its diameter to another expander from a similar die. I found a .001" difference in diameter and I switched to the larger expander. It worked for me and the mandrel now slides in snug but not forcibly tight. I als...

Re: 40 gr Berger
Tested some loads the other day and the Berger 40gr. Varmint BT in Winchester (fully prepped and neck turned cases) brass using 25.1grs. of RL-10X with Remington 7 1/2 benchrest primer O.A.L. 2.256" shot into 3/8" 5 shot groups out of my Savage VLP. Give it a try.

Re: Competition dies or not / Sizing Nosler Brass
I started with a (Hornady) standard die set and shortly added a (Hornady) neck only die. Mistake #1.... the neck only die design did not support the body of the case and was sizing the neck okay, but when I checked the cases for concentricity they were off. I ended up buying a Redding Competition se...

Re: Winchester necks
 Whistlepig...I would think that the reason some people are getting split necks with winchester brass is because of uneven neck thickness. By first outside neck turning the cases I believe split necks will be something that would be vastly minimized. Annealing the necks after a season of use (...

Re: Primers Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Primers have dried up at ALL of the bigger suppliers such as Midsouth, Midway, Natchez,Lock-stock-and barrel, Graph & Sons, and Sinclair. Sinclair says "the government has grabbed all the primers for their own use". So if you can find some of the type you will be using better grab them...

Darchell...I am very excited with the accuracy I am getting seeing @ 100yards. But because of the weather (I live in the corrupt state of Illinois) snow snow and more snow and cold. I have not been able to test the results of my load development. I started out with a T/C Encore (26" SS bbl.) in...

Re: Scope Mounts
My Savage VLP "w/accutrigger" has a round receiver and I used Leupold bases #55742 with #49959 30mm High Rings (.900) to mount a VXIII 8.5x25x 50mm scope (varmint reticle of course). I was going to use Warne rings as they are sturdy and a well made mounting system but I decided to stay wit...
