Re: Some Orygun Rockchucks
Looks like you had a fun enjoyable day. I wish our rock chuck country looked like that. Good pictures, good shootin'. I think the gas situation is going to curtail some of my varminting too. I would like to go after some Columbian ground squirrels but it's about a two and a half hour drive north of ...

Re: Idaho chucks
Yeah, there's one here that lives just in the city limits. It lives under some peoples shed. Ever once in a while I drive by and it's out in the middle of the lawn gorging itself. Sure is tempting. I see them once in a while in the freeway median.

Re: Idaho chucks
Those rock outcroppings are higher than they look. I'm getting older and have some nerve damage, if I tried to climb up there and retrieve my kills I'd wind up falling and breaking my neck. So, we just leave them for the raptors and coyotes. Also you have to be alert for buzz worms.

Idaho chucks
Met one of my friends for some rock chuck shooting again yesterday. I still didn't get many pictures of the chucks, my camera just isn't good enough to pick them out at distance in the rocks. I did get some pictures of the kind of country we shoot them in though. P1070354.JPG If you look close to ri...

Re: Rockchuck Walkabout
Sounds like a good day out and about. I finally got out for some Idaho chuck shooting yesterday. A friend met me for breakfast then we headed out to our "spot". The morning started out a bit breezy, maybe up to 20 mph at times. it wasn't a steady wind, it was up and down and swirling at ti...

Re: Ground squirrels
We sure haven't had good weather this past week for varminting, mixed rain snow, lots of wind. Plus I've been down all week with a sinus infection. I think I'm over it now and feeling pretty good again. If there's a nice enough day next week I'm going to meet some buddies foe rock chuck shooting.

Re: Ground squirrels
They are pretty far and few between here. Seems like the population is way down. Our squirrels aren't in the hay fields, they hang out in the desert hills. They are the Piute variety, a little smaller than your Oregon sage rats. We went out on Thursday for a while. There wasn't many out but we manag...

Re: Ground squirrels
I went out again on Wednesday. It was a pretty nice day, in the 60's and no wind. There wasn't as many out as hoped. I did manage to shoot 12 of them with 13 shots. The 13th shot was at some kind of stob, I didn't realize what it was until after I shot it. Killed it though! The rest of the squirrels...

Re: Annealing question!
I just use a candle and hold the case in my fingers turning the neck/shoulder in the flame until it gets to warm to hold. Then drop in water or a wet towel. It is not necessary to heat to glowing red and if you don't cool with water you are taking a big chance of the heat moving down into the head a...

Re: Ground squirrels
We got a little snow a couple days ago but not much. It's about all gone, just a patch here and there. It's supposed to be 59 on Wednesday so I'm hoping to get back out then. Heard from a guy the other day that said he has already got two chucks. Get's me worked up.

Re: 32 gr. Nosler Varmageddon
The 32 gr. Varmageddon Tipped is the most accurate bullet I've shot in my .204. I use 30 gr. BLC(2), I think max is 30.9. But my most accurate load came at 28.5 gr. One group measured. 169. All loads were .5 or under though. Those were three shot groups. That's the only powder I've loaded in my .204...

Ground squirrels
They're out around here. Not a lot of them but enough to get some shooting. My buddy and I went out last Friday for a few hours. He was shooting his AR 223 and I had my #1 218 Bee. We shot 30 or 40, didn't really keep track. We did get to see some pretty impressive aerobatics. There's still a few pr...

Re: Anyone use the Nosler 34 Grain HP bullet?
Try the 32 gr. Nosler Varmageddon. It's the most accurate bullet I've ever shot in my Rem 700 .204. I also use BLC(2). I think Hodgdon lists 30.9 as max but my best accuracy was at 28.5 gr. I got a .169 group. Everybody says that Sierra 39 gr, bullets are more accurate in their .204's but strangely ...

Re: OR93 another good wolf
Exactly! I live in Idaho and I know what they can do. I have seen six wolves but not where I could shoot. Three of them were on Simplot land where they raise cattle. I asked for permission to hunt them there and was told that if I was caught on their property I'd be prosecuted. I keep thinking maybe...
