Re: 39 blitzking
Bill k, Went back and read your post over. I guess I just didn't read close enough the first time. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Like I said, I'm getting old. The .204 is one of my favorite cartridges. I've never tried the non lead bullets, but maybe I need to. I've heard and read several people s...

Re: 39 blitzking
The splashes I'm talking about blew on the surface and no penetration or not enough to kill. Just made a big red spot, the badger and coyote both got away.

Re: 39 blitzking
39 gr. Sierra wouldn't shoot less than about an inch in my .204, 40 gr. V-Max shoots about 3/4" but when I went to 32 gr, Varmageddon I got a .169 group. Also, I had a splash on a badger that was hit right behind the shoulder and a buddy had a splash on a coyote, both with the 39 gr. Sierra. We...

Re: Columbian ground squirrels
Welcome. Those squirrels are nearly the size of prarie dogs. Always fun to shoot a few varmints but it's fun to get out in the big outdoors Whether you shoot anything or not.

Columbian ground squirrels
Went up in the high country today looking for Columbians. We shot several, me with my .218 Bee and my buddy with his Ruger AR .223. This is the only one we were able to get a picture of. Saw 3 or 4 rock chucks but they weren't holding for a shot. We were at about 6800' elevation. Really beautiful up...

Re: ?? Re: 218 Mashburn Bee
I just checked the Hodgdon site. I've been using Lil' Gun in my 218 Bee and really like it but I might have to try that CFE BLK. Good velocity for such a small case.

Couldn't you just start with 218 Bee loads and work up?

Re: First Rock Chucks
Good on ya, chucks are fun to shoot, especially when they 'splode and go airborne.

Re: Poor season
My buddy and I were out this morning roaming the hills, kind of scouting for new areas to shoot coyotes this fall. We unexpectedly ran on to some rock chucks. I shot 3 with my 22/250 and he shot 2 with his 6 m/m. They were up in some pretty rough, scraggly rocks so didn't get any pictures. We saw a ...

Re: Poor season
Yeah, I love shooting rock chucks, just wis there were more in this area. In this south west part of the state they've been pretty well shot out. That pneumonia theory could be right. We didn't get hardly any snow down in the valley's but a lot of rain in the early spring, clear up to almost the fir...

Re: Poor season
Oh yeah, I enjoy getting out whether I shoot anything or not. Sometimes I just like to get out in the hills and drive around, find new places.

Poor season
It sure wasn't a good year for ground squirrels here in s.w. Idaho, Started out kind of slow, got a little better but nothing like previous years. Then the weeds & grass started growing, some nearly 3 ft. high. Makes it impossible to see what few squirrels are out there. And I don't know what ha...

Re: Idaho chucks
Yep, I like shooting them all. I have shot a few with my .204, mostly with 40 gr. V-Maxes but the 32 gr. Nosler Varmageddon works really well to. I shot one 30 pounder with my .218 Bee at 111 yds. 40 gr. V-Max went in the right ear and out the left ear. That was a huge badger. Should have had it mou...
