Re: Annealing

For rifle brass, I use a Lee lead pot to anneal. I plug the pot in and let the lead go molten, checking the temperature with an infrared thermometer (point and shoot from Harbor Freight), using the temp controller to bring it up to 850 degrees F. Once the lead is up to temp, I grab a case by the hea...

Re: Nikon Monarch scopes

BillC...If possible...get a 6.5-20x50 Zeiss Conquest and your 6-24-50 Nikon Monarch and take them to the range. Crank them both up to max power. The Nikon's image will begin to degrade around 18x, where as the Zeiss won't (unless it's bad scope). I had the very scope you now own except mine had a F...

Re: Bald Eagle

In our yard last summer. My wife took this with a Nikon D200 and Sigma 150-500 mm telephoto at 500mm. This shot is about 100 yards away and very high in an old cottonwood tree. The second picture is a crop. There are a couple of nests within about 1/4 mile of our place and we see them all the time, ...

Re: Nikon Monarch scopes

I was in a store a couple of weeks ago and they had some Monarch scopes that had been on the shelf for quite a while. Thick dust on them. I looked through a 6-24 NP followed by Vortex, Leupold, Zeiss, Bushnell, and Weaver. The only difference I could see between the Monarch and the Zeiss is that the...

Re: Stock options for a CZ 527??

Just pulled the .223 from its stock. The rifle has a 2010 manufacturing date and when comparing the bedding block to the one in the stock I just ordered, they are different. The aluminum bedding block in the .223/2010 stock appears to have been vibro deburred and perhaps anodized. The new stock I ju...

Re: Stock options for a CZ 527??

Had I known in October what I know today, I would have ordered a stock from you. It seems that the HS Precision is preferred over the Bell and Carlson. Seems that I may have paid HS prices for a BC stock. I'll know as soon as I pull an action.

Thanks for the heads up.

Bill.

Re: Stock options for a CZ 527??

I'm cooking dinner at the moment. I'll pull one apart in the next couple of days and look.
Is this important?

Re: Stock options for a CZ 527??

Compared it to a buddy's custom build. I believe that HS Precision has a patent on the bedding block in the stock. With the exception of the machining (different actions), our stocks are identical. Don Kesselring confirmed that the stock on the .223 is HS Precision when he sold me the rifle. Is ther...

Re: Stock options for a CZ 527??

I just bought a varmint kevlar from CZ for my .204 and it arrived last Saturday. It is an HS Precision. I already own a CZ 527 in .223 with one of these stocks (varmint model with 1:9 twist) and was quite impressed. Hence, my decision to swap out the walnut on my .204 with the same stock. A side not...

Been looking for two years

Well Gentlemen, I finally found one at Bud's gunshop. After I bought it, the site showed they were no longer in stock, so I bought the last (or only) longslide they had. http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m125/mhinagoya/Crop2.jpg I have 3, 4, 5, and 6 inch 1911s now and have started thinking about 3...

Re: A 1911 project (Modem warning, photo heavy)

Okay Bill, Instead of sending you one of my Kimbers for a bobtail job I went ahead and plunked down a deposit on a Dan Wesson Commander Classic Bobtail in 10mm. I'll post some pics as soon as I get her paid off. Of course I may like her so much that at least one of the Kimbers may still get "b...

Re: Crimson Trace Grips Just Arrived--Update 12-26-08 & 1-6-09

Silverfox I have noticed the same "hard to see" issue with laser sights and because of that issue, I have avoided using them on defense guns. After trying various and sundry combinations (red or yellow insert front with white outline rear, plain black, dots, etc.) I have ended up with thre...

Re: A 1911 project (Modem warning, photo heavy)

Thanks Rick. I know you are a 1911 guy. For your personal enjoyment, here are my other two: http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m125/mhinagoya/DSC_0001Crop.jpg http://i103.photobucket.com/albums/m125/mhinagoya/SIGns.jpg The Wilson is in the hands of a gun dealer on consignment at the moment. Re: A 1911 project (Modem warning, photo heavy)

Because I had so many pictures of the Champion, I didn't post a pic of my regular carry piece. It is a Kimber Eclipse Ultra II. This gun has been absolutely reliable since day 1. It was dinging the brass a tiny bit, but after I adjusted the tension on the extractor, that went away. http://i103.photo...
