Re: 22 Hornet
Steve, it has been so cold here I could not drive a 3/4 by 1 1/2" piece of wood into the ground to mount my target board. Of course the ground is frozen. When we get a break in the freezing rain and it warms up some, I will give it a try. Getting kind of anxious. I don't shoot at any range, jus...
Re: Paralex?
I sure have to agree with the guys on having the crosshairs actually vertical. I generally shoot off the hood of a vehicle using a bipod. I certainly do not have the ability to detect if the crosshairs are absolutely vertical. In fact, when I guess I am generally off a full bubble on the level. Sinc...

Re: 22 Hornet
Shooter, I bought mediums and there is at least a half inch clearance. My intent is to work up loads with the 35 and 40 grain VMax bullets using Lil Gun as a starter. I am a little concerned about the bedding, but will shoot it as is, before taking the glassing step. I have the regular trigger down ...

Re: 22 Hornet
Rick, I have had the thoughts of opening it to a K, but am more concerned about accuracy than velocity. I just wanted something that was quieter while shooting around my hunting partners and light to carry. I will likely shoot it out to 150 yards, maybe stretching it to 200 at times. Otherwise the 2...

Re: 22 Hornet
Well, the rifle arrived last week. The Lux model does not come with rings or so CZ tells me. The rings came in today and I will be mounting the 10X Leo scope tomorrow. Shooter, those are the components I have acquired for the hornet. Numerous people on various forums highly recommend Lil Gun and pis...

Re: IMR 4198
Ken, I started out with 21 grains of 4198 and worked up to 22 grains and stopped. I was having a terrible time getting the 700 to shoot and stopped testing the 35's. No pressure signs. Only after recrowning, changing stocks and triggers, did I get it to group. Now I just use the 32 gr. VMax as they ...

Re: stockys gunstocks
Your might check out Boyds gunstocks as they have what looks to be the same stocks, but much better prices. I have one on a 204 and it is well finished with good inletting.

Re: IMR 4198
I use 4198 in both the 204 and the 223. I get very good accuracy out of the powder. I am not too concerned about velocity so I continue to use it.

Early rat shooting
I thought I would share some lessons that my shooting partners have learned over the past few years. Usually, around the middle of march, we get reports of the rats being up pretty good. They have been told, that the males come out early while the females remain underground. Weather permitting, they...

Re: 22 Hornet
Steve, he did nothing to the gun but mount a scope, load 40 grain bullets with 2200 powder and shoot it. He also shot some 52 grain Speer HP's and they shot well also. The 40 Vmax actually shoots the best. I shoot the 40's in my Mini Mauser and they are very accurate.

Re: 22 Hornet
Steve, my shooting buddy has a 527 in 223 that will shoot 40 gr. Vmax into 3/4" at 200 yards. It is the standard weight barrel also. He killed 18 chucks with 18 shots at 200 yards last spring and had never hunted them. He was pleased as could be with the gun. There was a number of head shots in...

Re: 22 Hornet
Steve, dealers do different things with CZ scope rings. Most of the time, they charge an extra $55 for them. A friend with a FFL ordered the gun for me and I don't know if the disributor ships rings with the gun. I am going to mount a fixed power scope because of the close distance of the rings. I h...

22 Hornet
I just ordered a new CZ 527 hornet. I am trying to remember what heighth rings I will need for a Leupold 10x scope. I seem to remember that some bolt handles will hit the scope on the low rings. Would appreciate any help.

Re: SAVAGE MARK11 BTVS .22LR
My shooting buddy has one and it would not shoot less than 4" at 100 yards. He re-crowned it and it started shooting around 1". I have heard this before and it really makes a difference in how they shoot. Savage needs to revisit their procedure in crowning barrels. By the way, his was a 17...

Re: Lead-free Barnes .257 TTSX bullets on ground squirrels.
Wrangler John I have a 257 that I had built in the latter part of the 70's. It was a Ruger short action that I bought a Shilen barrel for. It has taken its share of ground squirrels in W. Oregon. Never shot anything but 87 grain Speer bullets in it. After sighting it in, I shot two groups with it at...
