What was your most memorable day?
Having shot for over 50 years, there is always one particular shoot I remember well. It still give me great joy to think about that hunt. I will comment on this later, but would certainly like to hear your most memorable moments. Just remember, it is not bragging if you can do what you say you did. ...

Re: Accurate Arms 2200 is back as a canister powder
Glenn, 2200 is a fabulous powder in the 223 with 40 gr. Vmax. I am getting 3800 from my CZ Varmint and accuracy is excellent. I have also done some work with the 204 and 32 Vmax where accuracy is very good and again, 3800 fps. I am still trying to find the maximum load but have been hindered by the ...

Re: Squirrel report from eastern Oregon
I was over two weekends ago. The wind was brutal and ever changing. Not only the direction changes but velocity. On top of that, we were hunting with a rim about 400 yards away. We could see the mirage which was heavy, change direction with the wind a number of times. Most of the time, the wind was ...

Re: Please verify this drop chart for me.
The dogtown bullets have a pretty large HP on them. They simply cannot be as effecient as those sharply pointed bullets with tiny HP's. In my opinion, they will lose more velocity that better shaped bullets. On 6MM benchrest site, there was an article of using a die to point up those bullets with a ...

Re: Barrel Erosion
Gary, I just bought two PacNor barrels this morning. Since I have been shooting these guns for 20 years, they owe me nothing. And I like both of them. The mini will be a 223 and the Sako will end up being a 204 w/1-10 twist.

Barrel Erosion
I have in particular, two different guns that don't shoot in the .2 or .3's. One is a Sako with a douglas barrel. Went to the smith today and he scoped the barrel for me. I have had this gun for over 20 years and never fired anything but 4198 powder, 21.5 grains and 52 gr. Speer bullets. I need to a...

Re: Metal re-action
I had an opportunity years ago to become friends with one old time shooter. He never mentioned anything about the reaction between the bullet and the case neck. However, he did explain something to me that I found to be true. After ammunition is loaded for say 6 months or longer, the case necks will...
I wonder?
I had some 22 shells that could be approaching 20 years old. Decided the other day to shoot them up. Had a few misfires, but the surprise was when some of the Federals split vertically above the rim. My old 10/22 was just smoking. No problem with the gun, but was wondering if the powder/primer has a...

Re: Tax Day Rock Chucks
Hey Rick, that has to be fun. I am heading down south about the middle of may to shoot a few chucks along with some sage rats in N. California. Sure has been heck waiting for the weather to improve. Was at Burns 3 weeks ago shooting in heavy winds. Glad I went, because the fellow had torn up two hug...

Re: I got a Ruger V/T giving me problems
Ryan, the magazine boxes can cause difficulty for sure. A couple months ago, I purchased a CZ 223 with a Kevlar stock. I had fits with the gun until one day, I determined that something seemed loose, either the scope rings, bases or the action. Upon further examination, I discovered the magazine box...

Re: I got a Ruger V/T giving me problems
Ryan, did you use the action screws to tighten everything while glass bedding the action? I will say that I have had much better success since just using electrical tape to hold the action in the stock while bedding. Bedding is a critical step we take and we have to be very careful the action is not...

Re: !7 Fireball Chambering Issues
Fireball, I had the same problem years ago with a RCBS sizer. I simply removed a small amount from the bottom of the sizer until it did what it was supposed to do. They had chambered the die too deep. Taking material off the top of the shell holder did nothing toward solving the problem. The die was...

Re: Checking loads 3 vs. 5 shot groups .204's ONLY
Shooting groups on paper only give one a look at the guns/shooters ability to hit the target where the aim is. The true test is shooting a small target where blood letting is the goal. On paper, I want that first shot to hit the spot I am holding on, each time I shoot. That gives me confidence to hi...

Re: I have a question about rate of twist.
I believe alcoco is correct on the reasons why the 220 and 22-250 are still at 1-14. Because of the popularity of the AR, the companies have gone with a faster twist to suit demands. I don't think the companies have any incentive to change the twist on the first two cartridges. To be sure that chang...

Re: Windage alignment,Weaver base on G2 Contender
My Burris signature scope had the same problem along with half dozen of the earlier Leupolds. I gravitated toward the Leupold rings and bases because of the limited windage adjustment in a lot of scopes. Believe me, the rear windage adjustable base has saved my bacon a number of times. In addition, ...
