Re: Any Rats poking there heads out in SE Oregon?

I got a call last night from my hunting buddy that lives in S. Oregon. He said on friday, at about 10:00 the rats were out good. He said he shot 10 of them. The chucks were also out and he saw about a dozen of them feeding in the cheat grass. He is holding off shooting them until mid april when the y...

Re: My 25.06 Results today

I have a Mark X mauser with a factory barrel that shoots cloverleafs with 4350 and 87 grain Speer bullets. I would have to look back to see the grains used, but accuracy was good. I just happened on the load the first try, but it sounds similar to tests done on my 243. One grain down, 46 grains was ...

Re: Sportsman's Warehouse

My friend that works at the one in Salem, Or, told me 6 weeks or so ago, that the stores closest to the Canadian Border would be bought by the Canadian Co-op. So Rick, I would be lead to believe your store in Bend will be one of those sold. He told me 15 stores were being sold. The inventory in this...

Re: The T3 lite takes another one from off of the deck

Glad you like the Tikka and have confidence in it. That is a beautiful colored coyote. The ones in western oregon, that I have seen, are pretty bland in color.

Re: The journey is nearing an end!!!!

My question is, have we gotten to where we accept mediocre work on products we buy? I can certainly see a few things getting by the quality control, but their just knowing that the average guy does not care, is not a reason to do shoddy work on their products. I am fed up with the lack of quality, e...

Re: The journey is nearing an end!!!!

Jim, I am in full agreement with you. After building stocks and bedding factory stuff, it is a rare bird that comes from the factory and will shoot half inch groups. In buying and selling lots of shotguns, I decided to never buy a gun that had over two things wrong with it, depending on how serious....

Re: The journey is nearing an end!!!!

Fellows, I respect your remarks and truly believe what you are saying. The past 13 years, I was heavy in shotgunning and did not follow rifles. Me, and some of my acquaintances did see and experience some of the Remington Shotguns. They put choke tubes in them crooked because they indexed the reamer...

Re: The journey is nearing an end!!!!

JD11 Sounds like you have an exceptional Savage, or for that matter any brand that would shoot like that. Savage has not rested on their laurels like Remington and have continued to improve their product. In crusing the varies sites, I have yet to come across a post that bashed Savage guns, because ...

Plastic Stocks and how to make them shoot

I was surfing the web last night looking for interesting articles and came upon the website of Larry Willis. Some of you may have visited it. He goes into great detail on how to make the plastic stocks supplied with a lot of factory sporter guns. I have to admit I thought of doing this, but he reall...

Re: The journey is nearing an end!!!!

darchell, there are two factors that would encourage me to buy either a savage or a cz. One is that the triggers are very good on both of them. The second, I hear very good things about the accuracy of both. To me the triggers are a big deal. So, if I had been an informed shooter, not relying on Rem...

Re: Powder Question

Bitman, I cannot speak for the 204 loaders, but I like to know where I reach the maximum load. I have done it for decades. The powder companies genreally are conservative in their manuals and loads. The truth is from my perspective, is that we normally find some of the best accuracy near the higher ...

Re: RCBS die trouble

Years ago, an old gunsmith friend told me to throw away all the commercial lubes and try mineral oil. I have been using it since the mid 60's. The nice thing about it is that it will dry and does not need to be wiped dry, unless you are going to shoot the ammo in the next day or so. It also does not...

Re: Couldn't help myself

You are getting my anxieties to kick in. Probably in anoth 6-8 weeks I will be in Southern Oregon spotting and shooting chucks. It is just one of my favorite activities.

Good shot on that chuck. That is beyond my capabilities but am happy to see that others can make those shots.

Re: The journey is nearing an end!!!!

If I had to figure in my time on this job, I could have easily bought a good Cooper. The way it is, I have over $750 in a $500 gun. Doesn't make a lot of sense, but I have been very spoiled with good shooting factory guns. I gave a 700 to my son, that will shoot the eye out of a squirrel at 100 yard...

The journey is nearing an end!!!!

As many of you know, I have been speaking about my displeasure with the Remington 700. I know I did not buy the proper gun that was to meet my expectations. It was all my fault, because for the last 14 years or so, I have been shotgunning and not following rifles. I am writing this because there are...
