Re: Winchester Brass
Yep, pull em. When a primer blows that hot gas is released backwards like a cutting torch. Can damage your receiver on that Encore or worse your eyesight. I've seen primers welded to boltfaces. I shoot with a Fella who popped a primer in a Remington action and needed to learn how to shoot lefthanded...

Re: Winchester Brass
mvpal My suspicion is during the shortage on all ammo related supplies 4 years ago lots of stuff may have been packaged up without much QA. Your background may object but when the factories are running at peak capacity the first thing to go is QC. IMO you did the right thing returning them. The flas...

Re: ladder testing in load development
trucker Heres someone who took Creighton Audettes original work and rewrote it in simpler terms. I always start with a 200yd Audette ladder. 200's all I have. After 100's of ladders I can tell if a set of components is NOT going to work in that particular gun. JMO When the ladder shows accuracy node...

Re: Best accuracy - polymer tipped or small hollow point?
If you shoot one projectile at a target and it makes two seperate holes thats obviously coming apart in midflight. Sounds probable, but let me ask this then. If the tip separates and continues onto the 200 yard target, with what velocity would it hold ? Or could it possible increase ? Since it is o...

Re: Best accuracy - polymer tipped or small hollow point?
How do you know you lost the tips in mid flight? Have you a super high speed camera set up? I would love to see some of the still shots showing them being lost in mid flight. They would make for interesting conversation. Bill K Because I found a two implanted in the forward face of my 200yd plywood...

Re: Best accuracy - polymer tipped or small hollow point?
Easy enough. Look at short range Benchrest. No ones shooting nylon tipped bullets. IMO its not so much the fact of aerodynamics as it is of overall bullet quality. Nylon tipped bullets are generally mass produced pills. Jacket/core uniformity is not as meticulously controlled as a good J4 jacket cus...

Re: How many reloads?
And just for Ha Ha's How fast you shootin them 85 Sierras in your 6.5x55 bowshot? I've got a bunch of discontinued 85gn Bergers I bought dirt cheap to burn up some factory barrels that could'nt shoot well with normal fare. After seeing my first ladder test with 85's in one of them tubes I ordered a...

Re: Need a new and better scale.....
I shoot BR. I graduated to an expensive digital scale Denver Instruments MXX-123. For years I sat there and let my RCBS Chargemaster throw a rough load and fine tuned it on the DI down to .002gns. Time consuming!!!!! Before that I let my CM throw a rough charge and fine tuned it with just about ever...

Re: How many reloads?
I don't shoot anything bigger than a 223. So I'm wondering-wouldn't an 85gr pill zippin along at 3800fps give your gun just a wee bit of a kick to it? Sorry to change the subject. Good question JR BTW(by the way) its forum edicate that you and only you can steer your posts in any direction you seem...

Re: WHAT DOES ANNEALING DO?
FWIW Full length or neck sizing makes no difference really. Its the necks that get hardened first especially in loose factory rifle chambers. Once a piece of brass is fireformed its the neck that gets all the major brass movement. And moving brass makes it harden, the reverse of steel. Now if you co...

Re: Norma 204 Ruger brass
That is a good price folks.
You'll need to do your own trimming and chamferring but you'll end with with Lapua quality brass just like Nosler. Which yes, is made by Norma.
If you like Nosler but think they trim to short you should jump on this deal.

Re: How many reloads?
Seein as I live in Kondork country I gots to shoot lead free ammo. So I just ordered up some Barnes 26gr 204cal to try out. Have any of you shot them out of the CZ 204? I also ordered the 36gr in .224" but noticed after the fact that they are for "hornet." How do you think they will ...

Re: How many reloads?
As a competition shooter I never have any loaded ammo on hand. That fact got me to thinkin a couple months ago. All these purty bench guns but if I need a work tool theres nothing to grab. So I built a Huge lightweight 204 Ruger out of spare parts hanging around just in case Zombies attack. A 6.5X28...
