Re: Issue with CFE223

You'll probably not believe this but,,,,,,, your barrel just told you it doesnt appreciate large amounts of carbon fouling. Some barrels require higher amounts of carbon, some don't. CFE is nothing more than good ol w-748 with even more anti copper fouling additive added. Carbon prohibits copper fou...

Re: brass problems

Another possibility I would pay attention to if it were my rifle. The Sav m-25 might not be the strongest action going. It was originally designed for the 22 Hornet. You could be experiencing action flex upon firing. If the locking lugs are not mated to the receiver adequately that would compound th...

Re: 20 cal bullet pullers

Once again, No Rick its not you. I've used both and only use a collet puller now but It does deform the bullet no matter what the eye says. They are not to be used again for accuracy. Even tho once in my 6BR using pulled 68gn Barts I developed a load at standard seating depth which had changed drama...

Re: @the range

Neck tension or at least consistency of neck tension is crucial in any cartridge that is off the lands. You fail to mention what gun or what your COAL is but most 204's have an extremely long throat. I personally have never found the best accuracy anywhere near the lands in a 204 factory rifle. My f...

A little problem I found with all Viht powders in the 204. Keep an eye out for your necks not expanding after firing. Check this frequently. good luck.

Re: Question about the new 1st edition Berger Manual??

Walt is and always has been a very conservative man. Consult various reloading manuals then use your best judgement.
Years ago I used some of Walts data in the 204 on powders not listed in any other manual. Severe blow by until I reached mid level on the data.
Like Darkker said. Your max is your max.

Re: VihtaVuori N 530 ?

I've tried it just shooting Audette ladders using 35gn Bergers. I found nothing as far as accurate nodes go. Never tried any groups. 133-135-140 I found accuracy nodes with. 135 shot some real sweet groups BUT,,,,,,,,,, I always found with Viht powders in a 204 with huge jump to the lands does not b...

Re: 39g Blitzkings backordered.... now what?

Yeah, thats whats called a wallet group. If I owned a camera I might be even more annoying. Amazing what some Savage tubes can do. That barrel with that load did agg slightly under .25 moa @ 200yds for awhile until I messed it up using the 26gn VG's at hellacious velocitys. I have a hard time gettin...

Re: 39g Blitzkings backordered.... now what?

Bergers have the capability of being the most accurate bullet available. Wether or not you find the magic is up to you and your gun. Usually my Savage tubes preferred the 35's. This one liked the 40's quite a bit. Last five shots of load development at 200yds. No more tweaking required. They have th...

Re: Moly allows longer shooting sessions?

If you really are interested in "running cool" Winchester 748 is the powder to try. It really does burn cooler than any other powder I've ever tried. Whether you can find the accuracy you desire is another matter. Worked well for me in several 204 barrels. My old load was 29.2gns with 35 B...

Re: Rem 700 suggestions

:D Bill, My expierience has been just the opposite of yours. I won't bother going through all the stories but I've found 10X to be one of the filthiest powders going. Especially if your cleaning regimine is not up to par while using the stuff. Glad it works for you. camo, just my opinion but your st...

Re: Rem 700 suggestions

camo Fire a round, pull the bolt from the gun, puff of breathe in the receiver to clear the smoke, peek down the barrel. If your indeed running an inefficient load you'll see pieces of powder residue sitting on the bottom of the bore. Both BM and 10X are already on the fast side for the 204R. Should...

Re: new best @ 500

40 bergers and h4895 are the most accurate loads I have made. W748 is a good one for the shooter that is willing to allow his barrel to rest between shots. I like it due to the high velocity/less drop ability it can produce. milkman, That statement about 748 is interesting. Why would a barrel need ...
