Re: Help on dies which to buy
Fred Just cause I'm bored :D Bearing length on a 26 Barnes is .277 BL of a 40 Berger= .175 35 Berger= .227 30 Berger= .217 39bk= .255 Its been so long since I used a .20 cal comparator I could'nt find it  I used a sized case and math (never my strong suit :D ) Everyones BL readings may differ ...

Re: accuracy at 100 yards
I've been doing my best to stay out of this squabble but you guys are getting weird. Your all right. Your all wrong also A load capable of 1 moa at 100yds is not capable of 1 moa at 300yds just because its easy math. Theres a gazillion things that happen in those last 200yds not even including the w...

Re: accuracy at 100 yards
200yds with any rimfire is better than good  I think you'll like the 204. If you got the cash a Cooper is always a good choice. Only factory guns I've ever owned are Savage. Think the factory barrel is not up to snuff? Loosen the barrel nut and screw on a prefit Shilen for $300 I've had good lu...

Re: Project barrel life
No two barrels are alike, especially factory barrels, especially savage factory barrels :D Your shooting a very mild load. That helps. If it was an average Savage stainless tube I'd quess you should go 4000 with that load. I've only had one CM Sav tube. I considered it shot out from the factory. Hop...

Re: accuracy at 100 yards
Breeze, wind, breeze, wind, Got flags? All depends what you mean. Do you want to shoot one 2" group occasionally? Or do you want to put fifty rds in a 2" circle? Big difference. All comes down to what the wind is doing that day and your ability to cope. Last IBS match I shot we were seeing...

Re: Primer Cratering??
I agree also. Fred did a great job of explaining/perhaps disuading fear of pressure signs. I've seen a handful of loads that shoot well at moderate pressures. I've seen more that run at the edge. I've seen a whole lot more that shoot terrible at very high pressures. Its good to be able to discern ju...

Re: Whats your Work Up Method
Lately, I've taken to the OCW method and it has worked out pretty good plus saves wear & tear on the equipment. Previously, I went thru the recommended range of a given powder/bullet combination. With small case cartridges like the 204 & 223 I went in .2-grain incriments. For cases like the...

Re: shot out factory barrel. need some advise
l
I agree 100%, and couldn't have said it better. And a .204 can must certainly be shot out at 2500 rounds. Mike
Yep, don't spend money on a tube with 2500 rds through it. snipersam, you are correct when you say all barrels are not equal. My first Savage tube had 4000-5000 rds throug...

Re: Any advice for a newbie please
The 39's should work in that twist. Your not jamming into the lands are you? The 39bk is a very thin skinned fragile projectile. Perhaps the 10 twist is imparting to much rotational force. The 50gn Berger is perfect for that twist but expensive. The 40 V-Max should be another great choice. They're q...

Re: 34gn Nosler
Keep trying Redfox. Unfortunately, No offense to Nosler, those 34's have seldom been renowned for thier accuracy. Should be able to get better than 1moa though. Anyone know the American equivalent of AR2206H? As close as I could find its BLC2. Me thinks we have enough brothers from down under we sho...

Re: 34gn Nosler
I think Adam is referring to the 34's marketed as Dog Towns up here in the states. Generally accepted to be produced by Nosler as a generic bullet. Or I could be wrong.
Either way use data for the 35 Berger.

Re: I need help ordering a Pac-Nor for a Savage
Okey Its the web of the brass that will be a problem. Once that web gets blown out to fit a sloppy chamber its very near impossible to get it back. Standard sizers do not size the web. Theres a few methods others have employed to try resizing the web on brass. All cost money and time. None are quare...

Re: I need help ordering a Pac-Nor for a Savage
Generally speaking custom barrels never have sloppy chambers with huge dimensions, its not good for sales :D You can contact both Shilen and Pac-Nor and they should email you prints of their reamers. Then compare. The 11 twist by Pac-Nor will do the job for 40's. I think most custom 12 twists will h...

Re: I need help ordering a Pac-Nor for a Savage
Actually the number for BenchMark barrels is (360) 652-2594 My last Sav prefit was a Benchmark. My next one will be a Benchmark also. Thats about as high of praise as I give for thier workmanship, prices and timely delivery. These guys do "real" custom work for little or no extra charge. T...

Re: I need help ordering a Pac-Nor for a Savage
Okey I own a Pac-Nor but never ordered one. 6BR 14 twist bought used on the web. After scrubbing R-10X carbon out of the throat for a couple weeks its a very accurate barrel. Has served me well. I too have looked at thier site and come away a little confused. Best bet is to call them and order it to...
