Re: Favorite Loads
I am new to the site and just reloaded 50 204 rounds. I am using Win brass, Win primers, 34gr HP dogtwon rounds with 24grs of IMR 4064. I hope to try them out this weekend. I hope this to be a good load. Has anyone used this combo before? If so how did it work out for you. Darius Welcome to the for...

Re: How much brass do you buy?
For my personal type of use I need just over 100 for a match at two yardages. Soo I buy 150-200 of the same lot. Nosler. When that barrel is shot out I buy another 150-200 for the next tube. On the other hand when I just started out I bought 600pcs of Winchester brass all from the same lot. Found ou...

Re: can open worms everywhere
A neck sized case does have more volumne on the reloading bench. Once the triggers been pulled one of the first things (hopefully) to happen is your brass expands to fill the chamber. That requires energy. Pressure is siphoned away from the base of the bullet to move that FL sized case a smidge more...

Re: varmint nightmare 34 grain .204 bullets
Ummm :chin: Seeing as theres no top of the line first class Varmint Nightmares or Dogtowns how could one conclude they're seconds. They are what they are. Low cost production projectiles. I bought 1000 6mm 55gnSP Kangaroo bullets from Nosler as a production overun. Real cheap. Dang that was so...

Re: can open worms everywhere
Technically speaking FL sizing should require a tad more powder to get back in the node. Energy is expended on pushing the brass outwards towards the chamber walls. In my 6 ppc its usually .2 gns extra to find the hotspot. That rule need not be chiseled in stone. Many variations between neck tension...

Re: what powder to use in short barrel?
your right i never said , rem7,1/2 primers Perhaps you should try another brand before you spend good money on smithing your pin. Rem 7.5 has been known for years as one of the "go to" primers for hot cartridges like the 204. Perhaps, just perhaps during the "big ammo shortage" q...

Re: loads for berger 35 gr. hp??
A max load of Benchmark has been a proven winner quite often. 26.6gns is book max. You need to test in .1gn increments to find the node. BM burns very clean. Thats not always a good thing if your barrel coppers easily. For those conditions I switch to W-748 at 29.2gns. Another book max load if the b...

Re: Sending a Savage 204 back Into Savage
Fox Guy, may I ask what the problem is that you are sending it back in for??? Thats a good question. Theres not much on a Savage that can't be fixed at home with a dremel and a hammer  Seriously, The reason I build fun rifles on Savage actions is it can all be done in minutes at home with simp...

Re: .17HMR Hornady's Splitting Brass
Your not the first to have problems. My theory. Rimfire brass is not annealed as well from the factory. Its designed to be thrown away after first firing. Add the fact that somewhere along the line priming material is added (Not sure where or when in the process) making annealing illogical. Then the...

Re: .204 Ruger accuracy
RedLeg Hopefully your friend meant .5 groups. A more realistic wager. Not all barrels are capable of agging at .5 I find that incapability rare in a bolt action but your semi adds a bit of handicap also. Forget the Barska please. Never owned one but I looked through just one at the range. Mildot ret...

Re: .204 Ruger accuracy
Being just a paper puncher and the occasional batch of eggs trajectory has never been much of a concern for me. The VG has a very low BC due to its light weight. Someone once remarked something to the effect of "its like trying to shoot a styrofoam cup out of a gun" LOL's Anyhow it loses v...

Re: 35 gr Berger Loads
question, why does my COAL length seem so much longer then everyone else? These are seated to the max length my magazine will allow. Even my shorter length ones I tried were in the higher "2.400 range. Kale I admit its been awhile since i fired up a 204 for competition. Using a sized piece of ...

Re: .204 Ruger accuracy
Thanks for the load data. I'll check it out. Interesting situation you had there. What do you think caused the problem? Seems odd that just firing a different bullet would lead to a change in accuracy with another. Not something I'd heard of before now. You got 4700 fps out of the 26 gr. VGs?!! :ee...
