acloco I've tumbled Sierra 32's using both moly and WS2. Also tumbled 39's and had a batch that was loosing the plastic tips on the way to the target. Most people have great luck with them but not me. I have shot the 39's out of my new tube with no mishaps. The 40 Bergs I tried next performed so wel...

ray Sorry to hear Win messed up another batch. You can use your short Win brass for a go guage. Problem is when its time for bumping back the shoulder your die will not be able to size that deeply. Could shave .020 off the shell holder. After your done with that brass I'd recommend chucking the shel...

Re: Handloads Fail To Fire in H&R 204

So, if we get the brass to the right dimensions, that puppy should fire each time!? 8) Sorry Earl There are no guarantees on internet gunsmithing ;) A Stoney Point compartor can be bought from Midway among others. My suggestion, buy the body and .20 and .30 inserts separately unless you load for a ...

Earl Lots of measurements there. Not the one we're looking for though. Unless I missed it. Do you have a .30 caliber comparator insert for your Stoney Point guage? If so use that to comparatively measure your cases headspace length. .30 cal will slip over your neck and come to rest roughly midpoint ...

Yeah but think of all the extra powder he'll be able to stuff in that thing ;)

Sounds like your Win brass has the shoulders set back to far for your HR. You want to measure the shoulders between fired and unfired brass to see how far its moving. That should show you the problem. You can also measure and compare the fired brass between your CZ and HR. You just might have to fir...

For neck sizing. Imperial Dry Neck Lube (better known as Graphite) Forget the waxs. Forget the sprays and oils. It takes to much time to apply and remove. Forster sells a dry neck lube station with a small well and various brushes. It comes with white mica. Order the Graphite with it and chuck the m...

Skipper
Don't forget the Benchmark. 26.3gns is published max for 35 Bergers. The trick is to Silverfox it a little. Then it really starts to shine.

Go with the powdered graphite. Neco used to make a moly kit for neck sizing. I've heard some expierienced moly users say that a little moly can be a bad thing. I won't bother going into the specifics of thier theorys but using moly just for sizing may cause more coppering in the bore than normal. Th...

Sounds simple enough. Buy a good stock of factory ammo and components. Load what you can with the time you have and supplement your reloads with the factory stuff. It would be great if your reloads shot to the same POI as the factory but not likely. Maybe you could sight in with your loads and remem...

I believe it was Whistlepig who just posted his preference to never shoot more than sixty rds before cleaning. Or something to that effect. I agree. When I'm developing a load I will sometimes give up a touch of accuracy or velocity to get to that same 60rd mark without losing accuracy. Basically I ...

I'll be interested in your results. I launched a few with two seperate lots of W-748 just to test some old free powder. FWIW average 18fps difference between two lots roughly 15 years apart. The groups looked promising too.
They did get bumped down the list to try the 40 Bergs tho.

Seeing as thats not a standard Savage stock I would check for bedding problems. Finding a loose rear screw could also indicate bedding problems.

sammyc Don't need to read it. I would recognize an excerpt from "Secrets of the Houston Warehouse" anywhere. Your right its a fabulous story. Whether fact or just a gun writers dream I'm not sure. In most cases I believe its true but not always. I've danced around the lands with my 308 Kri...
