Re: 204- 40 grain looks much flatter than 50 grain bullets?
Okay, first off don't hold me to this because I read too much and have a lot of trivia rattling around in my brain. Somewhere I read that B.C. is not an absolute, it varies with changes in conditions for each shot, and even during the time of flight of each shot. Velocity, temperature, atmospheric p...

Re: Scales...Whats are we using?
Guys, I've been using an Ohaus 10-0-5 balance beam scale I purchased sometime around 1980, can't remember really. It seems to have been around forever. Earlier this year I purchased a new R.C.B.S 1010 scale (also by Ohaus) just because the old one was looking ratty (the check weights still prove it ...

Re: 11/11/11 Lucky day for me
funny, every savage ive owned will group like that jo, jo, jo! I am a Savage fan also, build 'em like they was made of Lego's, and indeed they shoot as you mentioned - even better, but to compare them to a Cooper is sacrilege! Savages are more the utilitarian tool, a bunch of easily adjusted parts r...

Re: Sonic Cleaner vgs Tumbler
I don't clean my brass to cut my groups, I clean my brass because I want it clean. Why wash a car??? It doesn't make it drive any better or go faster..... Yeah, I know how that goes, but then again we do some things just because. When I was a kid working the society horse show circuit, I had to cle...

Re: PRVI Brass
I bought 500 rounds of .223 Remington from Grafs. It is every bit as good as Winchester, a little better actually, with very consistent neck thicknesses. Didn't need a lot of prep work, just loaded and shot. Its on sale at Grafs for $16.00 per 100 rounds www.grafs.com/retail/catalog/category/categor...

Re: Sonic Cleaner vgs Tumbler
Well, that's all real good and dandy, and I do like choices. Thing is, it will be difficult to prove any objective improvement in accuracy or longevity from sonic cleaning or wet tumbling of cases. Why some competitive shooters don't even bother to clean primer pockets! Egad! Today at the range, I h...

Re: Nosler .204 Brass IDENTICAL to Norma .204 Brass?
saw flash holes widened or enlarged on subsonic cases in an article on subsonic on 6mmbr. not sure if they were drilled or swaged. the cases were marked so they would not be confused with other brass. well now i know.... thank you Them of us that shoot the 6 PPC also sometimes ream the flash holes ...

Re: Sonic Cleaner vgs Tumbler
There is no advantage to sonic cleaning whatever. It's too slow and inefficient. My sonic cleaner has an African violet planted in it now - great for houseplants. There is no need to remove the internal microscopic layer of carbon, nor will it have any salubrious effect on the brass if you do. Conve...

Re: Standard Deviation
You guys are all wrong.
Standard deviation is where you can't pass a gun shop without entering and fondling the new rifles. It is treatable with daily injections of Hoppies #9.

Re: Nosler .204 Brass IDENTICAL to Norma .204 Brass?
Punched, drilled, not really, they could be drilled out double the diameter and nobody would notice any difference. My practice is to purchase Winchester brass, then have a deburring and uniforming party. That's where I sit at the table watching old movies on the flat-screen (tube) while I deburr th...

Re: holding a group at range
Assume we are talking about the .204 Ruger. It is just about impossible to diagnose the problem, if there is one, without knowing a great deal more. What load, which bullet, what rifle, what barrel, what twist? Even then the problem may elude any remote viewing solution, except for the psychics amon...

Re: Grooves in Brass
Lapua brass looks that way - except the ring is concentric. These cases are not crimped. If it shot normally and if the brass deprimes normally I doubt its anything to worry about. Otherwise contact Federal. They will probably explain it. In all likelihood it's just a cosmetic flaw that requires no ...

Re: How much do you pay?
I went to the local gun shop and placed two Browning Reproductions on consignment. The 1886 sold but the Model 65 had no takers. So I took it back. That meant that I had to DROS it again, pay $35.00 for the privilege, and wait 10 days to get it back. The state had to be sure I hadn't committed a cri...

Re: How much do you pay?
Live in California huh? Well, as the sheep said to Babe in the movie of the same name: "That's just the way things are, dear." Last action I bought (hardly ever buy entire rifles) cost $35.00 for the paper work. It does no good to be angry, but relief is on the way. NRA and others have fil...
