Re: I HATE Kalifornia!

Actually the worst gun laws originate where ever Democrats or RINO's are in control. I sent a email to the Governor asking for a veto, along with the bill to ban gun sales at the Cow Palace. Chances are good Arnold will sign both into law - he's as dumb as a stump. Looks like I'll have to spruce up ...

Re: Group Size

Well, I gotta say that anything under .5" is really good. My home assembled Savage on a PTA shot one .247" group of 8 shots and an additional two fliers that opened it up to .5". At that point I gave up load development - even if there was a better load, I couldn't shoot any better. T...

Re: Neck Sizer

Why not just get the Lee full length set, and the Lee neck collet die? I have the Redding FL and neck dies, and after going through all the hoopla discovered that the FL die gave better consistency in my rifle. The accuracy (.250" groups at 100 yards) is such that no other fiddling around is ne...

Re: Reloading with a progressive press

Only problems I had was an older Hornady Loc-N-Load that had a lot of problems with the priming feed. Never got a thousand rounds out of it without something jamming or breaking. New versions redesigned the primer feeding mechanism. Had to send it back for repairs, but still didn't work reliably. Bo...

Re: Barnes Varmint Grenades and RL-7

In my .204 Ruger the 26 grain VG shoots best with 25.2 grains of RL-10x with a Remington 7-1/2 or Federal 205M primer, 2.260" OAL. .250" to .4" groups depending on wind and mirage. Velocity 4,085 fps average. RL-7 may be a bit fast for this combination. In the .223 Remington the 36 gr...

Re: Alliant 10X

Get some Bore Tech C4 Carbon Remover and follow the instructions (you'll need some nylon bore brushes). This stuff removes powder fouling better than anything I have used in a long time. I use Barnes CR-10 for copper fouling, but followed by Bore Tech's C4 it's amazing how much powder residue came o...

Re: Barrel Crowns...

I agree with Rick. I was introduced to this crown by Ikey Starks back in the 1970's. Ikey was a National Champion in several disciplines, a Remington Prep. and gunsmith. He re-cut a 40X barrel for me and I never looked back. It just works better.

Re: Do I get a Schmidt or 2 Nikon Monarch Tacticals?

To my aging eye, I found the Bushnell 4200 Elites to be a tad sharper and clearer than both my Nikon Monarchs. The Monarch tube is a bit shorter, so there can be a problem with mount spacing on some rifles - my Sako L461 (the little Vixen action) is too short to get the correct eye relief. However, ...

Re: Which scope for AR .204???

I have Bushnell 4200 Elites in 6-24x (2 ea), 3.5-10x; Nikon Monarchs 6.5-20x and 6-24x with side focus; Burris 3-9x's; Leupold 3-9x (several) and a Weaver Classic Extreme 3-10x, and some I forgot (like the two Unertl target scopes). My last scope purchase was a Leupold VXII 6-18x. I recommend this l...

Re: Cut vs. Button rifling

Then there's David Tubb that uses Gary Schneider Barrels exclusively for 1,000 yard guns. He specs out polygonal rifled barrels for the 6XC. I purchased one of Schneider's barrels, although in standard rifling, and found it as accurate as any. Now if I could just shoot as well as Tubb - well let's n...

Re: What do you think guys? Is she a keeper?

I think you are a lucky fellow.

Met my wife at the shooting range where I worked some 34 years ago. She was learning to be a bulls eye pistol shooter, still has her Colt 1911 and Colt Woodsman Match Target. Shooting is seldom thought of as a family sport, but we sure enjoy it.

Re: Lead-free Barnes .257 TTSX bullets on ground squirrels.

Well Lenard, I know about the age thing - just can't seem to stop it from happening! My first .257 Roberts Ackley was back about 1969 when I picked up a Ruger Model 77 in .257 Roberts and had it rechambered by Micro Sight. That thing was phenomenally accurate. It soon became my favorite squirrel car...

Re: My primers are coming!! My primers are coming

Yep, they're being shipped around. I received 10,000 Remington 7-1/2 two weeks ago from Cabela's and 5,000 Winchester LR Primers are on their way. Bought 2,000 Federal SR Match from Bruno Supply a couple of months ago, and I understand they have a massive shipment now. Bruno knocks down $50 a 1000 t...

Lead-free Barnes .257 TTSX bullets on ground squirrels.

Just before retiring I decided to commission a new rifle on an old Remington 700 action that had been languishing in the safe. It had a El Cheapo brand barrel chambered for the .257 Roberts Ackley Improved. That would never do, so it was sent off for a complete rebuild with all the bells and whistle...

Re: Prairie Poodling pics (frame by frame) *Very Graphic*

All I can say is: "Splat, pop, snap, sploosh and whap, anybody got some Saran Wrap? All I heard was a great loud whop, now my body is a pile of slop. I need to get to the E.R. soon, before a raven finds a spoon. So scoop me up and wrap me tight, I really do look a dreadful sight. I need CPR but...
