Re: Bullet stability

The stability calculator http://www.jbmballistics.com/cgi-bin/jbmstab-5.1.cgi shows the following: You want a Stability Factor S.F. of 1.5 or greater - higher is better. 39 grain, .733" long, .204 bullet at 3,500 fps in 1:12" twist has a Stability Factor (SF) of 0.858 - unstable. at 3,400 ...

Re: Mounting scopes to detect barrel misalignment

My Savage Precision Target Actions are about as straight as can be, never had any problems mounting a scope with Weaver bases and Burris Signature Z-Rings. The latest Dual Port action however seemed to have the front base holes clocked a degree or two off, not much but it made a difference. I scrapp...

Re: Possible head space issues

Try Pac-Nor Barreling - they have the reamer and will do either a pre-fit barrel you can install yourself (if you have the tools) or do the entire job. http://www.pac-nor.com

Re: Loading for Accuracy Vs. Velocity

So we're talking about the .204 Ruger here. It's just a phenomenal cartridge. I can get the little Barnes 26 grain Varmint Grenade up to 4,110 fps and shoot .25" groups, except when a zephyr or tornado happens. That isn't maximum velocity, it's a mild load of Rl-10x. Even the big long Berger 50...

Re: building a custom 204, help wanted

I shoot a 1:8.5" twist Pac-Nor in .204 Ruger and it shoots everything from the 26 grain Barnes V.G. to the 50 grain Berger HPBT way down in the .2's and .3's. So don't worry about going too fast with the twist. My buddy tells me about the fellow that works for a major precision shooting supply ...

Re: Sonic Cleaner or Tumbler

I bought a Hornady Sonic Cleaner, it's sitting out side on a shelf in the patio, not likely to be used again. They are slow, messy, and leave you with wet brass that needs to be rinsed and dried. They don't clean the brass any better than a vibratory tumbler. You even gotta mix the cleaning solution...

Re: Two Points of Impact

One thing to check is that either one of the action screws (especially the front) is not interfering with the bolt. After awhile, the screws may seat down in the bottom metal or pillar(s), and touch the bolt. When this happens to the front screw, it can tilt the floating bolt head and toss a shot, d...

Re: MOLY COATED PROJECTILES GOOD OR BAD ?

I was just reading this article: http://bulletin.accurateshooter.com/?s=Boron+Nitride&submit=Search I have the equipment for moly coating, and have used it, but as it says in the article the moly will combine with atmospheric moisture to create acids (probably sulfuric acid because of the sulfid...

Re: OEM barrel break-in

Trigger = JEWEL, JEWEL and another JEWEL. I started buying Jewel triggers when the factory trigger on my Remington 40-X went south. Never worried again about a trigger. Jewel's proved even better than the old Canjar's, even the 2 ounce. They are easily installed and come with an additional weight of...

Re: OEM barrel break-in

The Remington 6-1/2 primer will either blow pinholes around the primer cup edge and pock mark your bolt face, or blank a hole where the firing pin hits. That primer is not tough enough for the pressure of the .204 Ruger. I had that primer pop a pinhole every shot in the 7mm TCU on a Contender, which...

That's why I own four Bushnell Elite 4200 scopes. Not one was a disappointment, except the 8-32x which was returned for another 6-24x. 32 power is just too much for a 1" tube in a variable.

Re: .204 Ruger flash hole tweakin

The .204 Ruger uses the standard sized flash hole, .080" with decapping pins of .062" +/-. PPC cases use a .060" flash hole, and decapping pins .057" +/-. Where I ream PPC cases .0624" to prevent sticking an errant .060" pin, there is no need to ream .204 Ruger flash ho...

Re: 40x stock on remmy 700?

Unless it's a 40-X stock for the magazine version, it will become a single shot without a good deal of inletting to make it an ADL and more to attach the bottom metal for a BDL. I use Richards Micro Fit thumbhole stocks for Remington 700 these days, ordering them with a bit extra wood on the comb an...

Re: Blaser rifles

I can't answer your first question, but the following does answer why I can't. Too pricey, and few advantages is why they aren't popular. Any Savage is a swap barrel rifle, and even a Remington bolt action is suitable for quick change barrels, and both can change calibers across cartridge sizes (esp...

Re: Question----

One thing I learned about Nikon scopes is that they just don't compare favorably to just about any other similarly priced product. I purchased two Nikon's, the last of which was a 6-24x 50 SF Monarch purchased last year. It lost its ability to hold zero, and was so blurry that I sent it back for ser...
