Aim point for 250 yd shot from an elevated position?
I hunt woodchucks in northwest PA farm country. I hunt fields and pastures with rolling fields. I usually set-up on the top of a hill and shoot the fields and ditches below. The hills are anywhere from 30 -100 feet high and my typical shot is 150-250 yards. Occasionally I get a 300-350 yard shot. Lo...

Re: Stupid question - consistency vs accuracy?
Thanks for the replies. I used to be very anxious about my rifle until I gave up trying to shoot anything other than factory 32 grain Hornady's - it shoots these accurately and consistently! I just thought it was weird that the single 32 grain was right on the bull's eye (single shot I realize) but ...

Stupid question - consistency vs accuracy?
I know the difference between consistency and accuracy but I have a question about how much variability there should be between these two when using different bullets. Consider this scenario that just occurred in my back yard: A friend of mine made up some hand loads for my bone stock .204 Ruger Rem...

Anybody shooting 45 grain Hornady's?
I bought a box of these on sale last year from a sporting good store that was consolidating 2 locations into 1. My rifle is a Rem 700 VTR with 1 in 12 twist barrel and the only factory ammo it will consistently shoot well is 32 grain Hornady's. However, I ran out of 32 grains so figured I would try ...

Re: Butler Creek scope cover for Leupold VX-III 6.5-20x40mm
After an hour of cross referencing BC's website catolog and Leupold's website, it looks like I need a #13eye and #26objective. I would love the Leupold covers but they are $80. The BC's will be $11 at the clearance sale. I have BC's on my deer rifle and have had no issues but it doesn't get fired ne...

Butler Creek scope cover for Leupold VX-III 6.5-20x40mm
A local sports store is changing locations and is having a big sale to get rid of inventory. I found some Butler Creek flip open scope covers but was hesitant to buy them due to the shape of the eyepiece cover. I have a Remington 700 VTR in .204 Ruger with a Leupold VX-III 6.5-20x40mm scope. It has ...

What cal bore brush?
I haven't posted in awhile but my Reminton 700 VTR in .204 Ruger is finally starting to shoot well. I have over 200 rounds through it and it's getting dialed in - 9 dead groundhogs yesterday! Anyways, I have misplaced nearly all my cleaning stuff (most of which my brother bought for me since I am ne...

Thanks - I'll give them a try. Hopefully I can get to the range before the white stuff starts flying around here and let you all know the results!

Anyone shooting Remington 32gr factory loads?
My local sports store (a big chain store FYI) has a coupon for buy one box of ammo and get the next 1/2 off. The only .204 Ruger loads they have are the Remington's (32gr accutip boat tail IIRC) and 32gr Hornady VMax's. I shoot a Remington 700 VTR and the only factory load that I can get close to 1&...

Re: Having trouble with new Remington 700 VTR accuracy
Thanks for all the replies. No, I do not reload . . . yet. I was hoping to find some factory ammo that worked well with my gun at first and then get into reloading. The barrel is not free floated and the action is not bedded beyond how it came from the factory. The stock on this gun is far and away ...

Having trouble with new Remington 700 VTR accuracy
Hello, this is my first post so please bear with me. I love to shoot woodchucks and finally decided to buy a dedicated rifle for this purpose. I live in Erie, PA (northwest corner of the state) and most shots are 100-350 yards. There are lots of hills around here so there is minimal bench rest shoot...
