Re: Is the 32 gr. v-max enough for coyotes?
The first bullet was a chest shot/broad side. I am unsure why the round didn't expand. . . 40 gr hornady. I should say that it did begin to explode/expand as it was leaving the body. The next round was 32 grain vmax and it was a shoulder shot. Oddly the cat jumped into the air and when it hit the gr...

Re: Is the 32 gr. v-max enough for coyotes?
I have actually shot a stray cat at 128 yds, and the best part. . . the cat didn't even know he'd been shot. I'd thought I'd missed him and shot again. Upon the second shot hitting the shoulder, the cat jumped a few feet in the air and plopped on the ground. Hmmmm. . . .cat stew :D I tried to sell t...

Re: Is the 32 gr. v-max enough for coyotes?
I have heard of 32's doing a splash shot (no penetration, only external explosion). I use 40's for coyotes and stray dogs.

Re: Coyote God's Forum
I have never been to their site. I don't plan on visiting that site. I get all the rippin' I need for my . . . .different approach to things. My strategy for coyotes: see them. shoot them.  Ohio has a year around season with no bag limit. I shoot a 204. If I only had a 243 then I'...

Re: Keeping Cool
thank you waldo. :) :chin: wounding a pet. . . . . I remember!! yes, the dog is still alive the last I saw of him 3 months ago. Limping a little, but alive. Since then, I've made some improvements to the gun and the shooter so that such a wounding event won't happen again. The dog may have sta...

170 acres heavily wooded with patches of small fields and a couple of ponds. turkey season is when I encounter most poachers. Black eye. . . :stone: There are worse "ethic violators" than myself. True, there are 101 different ways things could've been done. Results would have been the same...

Re: Keeping Cool
yes. it was not in accordance to the book. yes. it is not a genius move. while hunting on my own property, i have encountered several poachers. . . few see me and make a run for the border; some wait to see if i spotted them, then run; and quite often when i confront them (regardless of what i have ...

Re: Keeping Cool
I appreciate all comments. Unfortunately, Saturday's hunt was a bust. I had some two old does a yearling doe and two fawns just outta spots cross the field at 'bout 200 yds. but something behind them kept their attention and they moved on quick. The evening hunt failed too. I had found a good spot t...

I'd be proud too!! My boy is 2 1/2 and I'm proud when he sees male and female deer and promptly shouts "Buck" or "Doe". . . now if I can only get him to use and indoor voice while we're hiding in the deer blind. Getting kids interested in hunting and gun safety is important. Enjoy!

Keeping Cool
Sept. 29th is the opening day of archery deer season in Ohio. . . with a 2 month drought. It is supposed to be extremely hot upper 80's and lower 90's. What is the best method for keeping deer meat cool during field extraction, tag in, and the 45 minute trip to the processors? Need to know soon! I w...

I'm not sure about big cats (since we don't see too many in southern Ohio) but the stray cats we get around the place don't seem to mind too much when I put a 40 grain poly tip straight through em the 40 gr hornady poly tip or the 45 gr sp should do nicely on a larger cat with more meat to allow the...

I ain't gonna promise that every round hit the coon, but I do know the bore coon took one .204 to the back, a .45 acp to the body, and at least one 20 ga to the body. I'm sure he was hit with more....... I've always used a 12 ga for coon with #6 shot or larger. I've gone with fellers who used a 22 o...

We wanted to eat what we killed, but the one I got was losing hair on her back and head. . . unsure why. . . so we passed on her. The little pig the nephew shot would have been good, but with 86 degree weather and no cooler with ice. . . . . Probably should've made a small fire and ate her on the sp...
