the coon had her back to me when I shot. the 40 gr went beside the spine and the 34 gr hit and inch or so from the 40. The fragments from both rounds passed through the same tissue/goop. I had expected the 40 to go through and stop the coon. . . . I assume that the damage inside would have finished ...

pesky bandits. . . say hello to my lit'le friend
My dad had some coons at his farm getting in the feed and killing chickens. So, Mr. Savage and Mr. Hornady paid the Coon family a visit. 80 yds, Hornady 40 gr V-max then a 34 gr JHP, Savage mod 12 single shot .204 The first shot (40 gr) rolled the coon who then decided to run. Bad choice. ...

The shortest distance with a 204. . . .pt blank!!
The nephew and I went out for some ground hog fun. . . we had heard of a hog den with several holes near a farmers barn. We found the holes. . .inside the barn  so the nephew stood outside with a Savage Mark II G 22cal. I snuck inside the barn with my Savage mod 12 single shot .204 cal. ...

I have made a few long shots at a variety of targets and sizes. I use factory ammo (Hornady 40 and 45 grain, Winchester 34 grain), and have had mind blowing results at 100 to 200 yds. Yes, it does boost ego when I can peg a pop bottle cap at 300 yds with a 40 gr. . . . I get the same feeling with a ...

Illuminated Recticle Scopes
Does anyone have sugestions regarding illuminated recticle scopes? I've priced a few and I found a Leupold that I really like, but I just can't commit to it until I've heard some history with the illuminate recticles.

flunked the county dog catcher had been out 4 years ago for similar problems with a certain neighbor's dogs. the catcher picked up two of the three and contacted the dog owner. the owner said that he didn't want the dogs and to put them down. I attempted to contact the catcher this time too, but the...

yes, I did know and understand the ramifications of posting my senario. Yes, dog had been circling the property for a few days before the night of shooting. I had been careful to check with binocs for a collar and phone calls for an owner before the STRAY shadowed in the crosshairs. Yes, it may have...

I had mentioned awhile back that I'd shot this stray with a .204, 34 grain Winchester JHP and it didn't kill 'em with one shot as I would have preferred. Update: I seen the dog Thursday last week walking the banks of the creek below my house. I should rephrase that. . . walking on three legs and dra...

True, hind-sight is 20/20. The dog had been harrassing my own livestock and pets. Also, any friends that came over often had to watch out for the stray. I never did see a collar on it. There are several stray dogs in the area, but I did check with some of the immediate neighbors and none of them cla...

Stray Dog
I shot a stray couple nights ago (34grain Winchester JHP factory ammo) he looked like a chow / shepard mix. The shot was 40 yds with VERY low light, just enough to see the thick parts of the crosshairs. He turned quartering to me (did I mention a dark colored dog) and I took the shot. He dropped and...

If the only gun I had was my Savage single shot .204 I would shoot all ammo I had! But for my personal choice. . . .243 :muffy: You can hand load a w i d e variety of bullets and its a good all around caliber. I've got a brother-in-law hand load some rounds, knock off a ground hog @ 200yds and turn ...

Unfortunately, I don't have time nor money for a painjob. . . NICE JOB LILCAL ! :hail: I went to Wal-Mart and bought 3 or 4 rolls of cloth camo tape and carefully applied it to my Savage mod 12 with synthetic stock and blued barrel. It works very well for my location and purposes. Also, the cloth ta...
