Winchester 748 is a ball powder. Works well with the Hornady 45-gr bullets. Haven't tried it with anything lighter yet.
The Hornady manual shows it works with their 32 and 40-gr bullets. But, I haven't loaded any yet.

Re: Rem 700 sps-v review.
There is another thread active on the 32-gr bullets and coyotes.
Thus far the consensus is no they are not hard hitting enough on coyotes.

Re: Hornady 25-cal Neck Sizer for the 257-AI???
I got a response from Hornady tech support; They say it has a very steep angle to handle the wildcat cartridges, and will work well. So I guess I need to get one ordered. Deer season will be here soon, and I want to finish my range work before the "3 out of 5 on a paper plate, once a year, mean...

Hornady 25-cal Neck Sizer for the 257-AI???
Can anyone tell me if the Hornady 25-caliber neck sizing die will work with the 257 Roberts Ackley Improved 40-degree? I would to prefer to neck size only, and will be reloading for my 257AI, and for freinds rifles in 250 Savage, and 257 Roberts. So, if I could get one neck sizing die that will work...

Re: ruger number 1
Rick, on the heavy barrels the tension screw has less impact, than on the light sporters like mine. iirc, the barrel stiffness is a function of the square of the diameter, so a barrel that is twice as thick is four times as stiff. I was tickled that my No. 1, shoots the lighter two of the Hornady fa...

Re: scope mildot calculations.
The MilDots are graduated in minutes of angle, at a given magnification. Sorry, I can't remember what the power and amount of angle is off hand, but I thinkit is 6-minutes per dot at 12-power. And, a minute of angle is about an inch at 100-yds, (1.047198-inches actually). So read up in your manual t...

Re: ruger number 1
I have a light sporter, after a trigger job, it will shoot 3/8-inch 3-shot groups, with 32-gr, and 40-gr factory rounds It groups the 45 grainers at about 3/4-inch, but six inches high at 100-yds. (Before the trigger job, I couldn't get under an inch with it, with any ammo.) Mine is very sensitive t...

Re: can target shooting start a fire?
The fires are started when the shooters use unimproved or impromptu ranges, and shoot metal objects, or rocks with enough metal in them that they spark on the bullets impact, or the fragments have enough residual heat to cause ignition. Typically the "range isn't cleared or improved, so that th...

Lefty Bolt Guns
Is anyone making left handed bolt guns? I have fourteen year old sorta stepson, (his Mom and I are no longer together), that is starting to hunt. He has a very dominant left eye, and because the instructors at hunters ed insist that the kids learn to shoot with their dominant eye, he shoots left han...

Re: Recomended load for wolf
Varmonter, yes I carry a side arm. As of now there won't be a wolf season so it is probably a moot point. But I think I will do the load workup anyway. The 204 would be a backup plan anyway. Since the seasons for wolf, and the big game I hunt, (deer, elk, and antelope if I draw a tag), overlap I pla...

Re: Dryfireing
On most (I think all, but not having seen all, I'll say most), bolt action rifles the firing pin and cocking indicator are locked together, and most bolt actions actually cock on opening the bolt. If you hold the trigger down, and slowly close the bolt, the cocking indicator, and firing pin attached...

It depends on how high above the bore the sighting device is.
Hornady has a balistics caclualtor on their site that will grind out the numbers.

Chrony F1 or Alpha Remote
Does anyone have the remote for the Chrony Alpha or F1, and a multimeter? I have the F1 Master, and don't really see the need to have a bunch of extra wire cluttering up the bench. From what I can see on the catalog, all it consists of is a momentary contact switch, wire, and a couple of 1/8-inch mi...
