Re: Win 748

I started working with it this week, with Hornady 32-gr bullets. I shot a ladder of 3-shot groups today from 27.0 to 29.3-gr, in 0.3-gr increments. Didn't see any pressure signs, and might try the Hornady manual listed 29.6-gr max, at 4100-fps. In my Ruger No. 1, with a light sporter barrel, the bes...

Re: ruger compact 7mm08

If you are a good shot, shoot for the heart and lungs, and limit your self to shots of about 250-yds, it will do fine as an elk rifle. AT 300-yds, the energy is getting marginal, and even at 100-yds, you probably won't get a quick, humane kill with a cross wise rear hip to front shoulder shot. The 3...

Re: 20 22Hornet imp

I'm sure it could be done. But I don't know why you would. You will end up with an expensive custom rifle, that doesn't do what a commercially available cartridge, the 204-Ruger already does. You would have less recoil, (but the 204-Ruger is extremely mild already). You might be able to get a longer...

Re: Big game dressing tool

I don't see a need. I learned how to dress a deer years ago, with a just a good sharp knife. I now wear a pair of blue nitrile gloves but beyond that the method and tools are unchanged from what I learned from my Father and Grandfather. It takes two or three minutes to cut around the anus, reach in ...

Which bullet puller causes the least bullet damage?

I loaded 100 rounds for my 257AI, with my cherished old style Nosler 120-gr solid base bullets, (the ones in the red box, with the lead tips), only to discover that I somehow got the new digital scale calibrated wrong, and I'm 15-grains short on the powder load. So, I need to tear them all apart. I'...

Re: Texa$ Hunting Licen$e

In most states the Fish and Game Dept, or whatever the state calls it, gets little if any revenue from the general fund. They are entirely supported by license and tag fees. From those fees they typically have to: pay the staff; pay the rent, and heat/cool the offices; fuel the trucks; investigate p...

Re: .204 brass wanted

I have 40-rounds each of Remington and Winchester, that I would swap you for 50-rounds of Hornady, either new or once fired.

Hornady primer pockets

I know that the Hornady brass has a reputation for having small primer pockets, that are so tight it is hard to uniform them with a reamer. Last night I started in on reloading a bunch, (about 500-rounds), of once fired Hornady factory brass. It is a mixed lot, some of the 32-gr, 40-gr, and 45-gr fa...

Re: Chrony F1 or Alpha Remote

Just in case someone else needs to know, and finds this thread in a search:

The connector is a standard 1/8-in stereo plug. The tip is the printer, the second band is the remote control, and the third or base is common for both the printer and the remote.

Re: recoil eliminator

Not sure why you would add one to any 204. The bullet is supersonic, so there will always be a crack as it move through the air. It is also why the one you shoot never knows it is coming; the bullet arrives before the sound gets there. The 204 has negligible recoil, even with a light barrel. And, re...

Re: Testing 38 gr Wildcat loads

Yes, it could easily be heat related. You have a light barrel and they are more susceptible to heat drift. My Ruger No. 1 starts to spread out after three shots, possibly after two. I end up with two touching, and the third by itself. So long as I shoot three shot strings, I can usually cover them w...

Re: How deep is to deep ???

The spec is 0.118 to 0.122, so the 0.120 sounds right.

So long as your firing pin is actually set up right, with correct protrusion, and a good spring, you should be fine, with the 0120 depth. Only way to know for sure is to fire some.

257 Roberts +P Brass

Does anyone know where I can get 50 or 100 peices of 257 Roberts +P brass?

Midway shows it on the website, but only in boxes of 500 or 1000.

I would prefer not to buy any more Remington Brass.

Old Style Nosler 257-cal, 120-gr, Solid Base Bullets

If any body has any of the old style, (lead tipped), Nosler 120-grain, Solid Base bullets, in the red box and black box, I need some. I have a 257-AI that loves this bullet. The new solid base, and the partition group about 2 to 3 times as wide at 100-yds, 1.25-in vs. .5-inch. I was looking last nig...

Re: Swarovski PH6-24X50

Well, it is converts to an agle of 0-degrees, 0-minutes, and 10.3-seconds. Which is very close to 1/20th of a mil. Close as in less than 0.0003% error. Since I only started at two significant figures, I would surmise that it is 1/20th of a mil. If you use the 3.6-in/100-yd is one mil of deflection t...
