Re: How sooped up can you load a 30-30?
I'm fairly confident that the Contender will handle the increase in pressure, and bolt thrust from increasing the pressure above the 42-ksi, SAAMMI spec of a 30-30, to the 62-ksi of a 308. And, at that pressure, I would expect to get about 90% of the velocity from the the 30-30, of what the 308 will...

Re: 204 encore twist?????
To determine the twist on your barrel, make crosswise mark on a cleaning rod, about 6-inches from the tip. Make one longitudinal mark, the length of the rod. Put on a jag and tight patch, start it down the barrel, and when the cross mark gets to the barrel, note where the longitudinal mark is. Push ...

Re: Midsouth 34g Varmint Nightmare load?
On bolt actions I usually make up the dummy rounds for the various bullets. Just because, it avoids any potential error introduced in measuring and transfering things back and forth. The dummy round is what it is, and I can't transpose numbers that way. I spent 30 years in Vegas, before I moved to c...

Re: Midsouth 34g Varmint Nightmare load?
Cujo, since you have a bolt gun, try making up a dummy to find the lands. Start with a resized, but unprimed case, it isn't anything special just resized however you will resize the rest of the run. Leave the bullet out above the SAMI spec of 2.260, as far out as you can get it steadied up, (you nee...

I think that you misstate the incident when you say: "shot Vicki Weaver in the head while she stood in the doorway of her house, the only thing that she was holding was her baby!" He spotted Randy Weaver, and Kevin Harris, both of whom were armed outside of the house. He engaged them hitti...

Re: Midsouth 34g Varmint Nightmare load?
The COAL will vary from rifle to rifle. Even if you had sequentially serial numbered rifle it would probably vary slightly. Every rifle has it's own preference for case length, and COAL, due to slight machining variances. The two brothers and I have 257-AIs, built on tuned Mauser 98 actions, with &q...

Statelinerut: Be carefull with the short scopes. They tend to have a shorter eye releif to go along with the shorter length.
It can be a real pain to install them on some rifles, (Number 1 Rugers being a prime example).

Re: new brass - off center flsh holes - Problem ?
If possible mesure how far off center they are, if you can. Second, call Winchester, and let them know you have a problem, and the batch number if you have it. And, see what they do. Personally, I would expect them to replace them. Please, keep us informed on what happens. As to it effecting accurac...

Re: Wolf with .204
Nice to know the 204 will drop wolves. I asked in the 204 Reloading forum earlier in the year, and people were responding that they weren't certain it is enough gun. I went ahead and developed a hand load for the 45-gr Hornady, anyway. I can whack a juice box with it 8 out of 10 times at 300-yds, so...

Ray, thanks for a bit of reason. We all need to remember to treat others with honor and dignity, even when we disagree with them. I'm one of the guys who believes the Second Amendment is inarguably a personal right, and responsibility. It was written by a group of men who were successful revolutiona...

A new realoading manual. I lke the Hornady, it has a good introduction for the novice in the front. Most powder and bullet companies have relaoding data online or available through their online tech support for their powders and bullets. A set of 204 dies. I got a Redding "Deluxe" three di...

Re: Chronographing
I got an inexpensive laser bore sighter at WalMart, that goes in the front of the barrel for about $20. I had forgotten to take my bore sighter with me, when I bought the sorta stepson a 10/22 for his birthday, and needed to get a scope on it. I use it to line up the rifle on the chrony. Unfortunate...

Re: Is the 39gr Sierra Blitzking really the magic bullet?
Old Turtle, the brother has a Ruger No. 1, in 22-250, that he painted in a rainbow. It is red at the barrel tip, and fades through orange to yellow midway in the forend, through green to deep navy blue at the butt.
Definitely striking, but not my taste.

Re: 10/22 front sight
Rick, I'm leaning towards the heat pressed method that Ruger uses for the model 77. It is a known method they have used for years, which their design team is very comfortable with. I tried finding either of my take off barrels to look at them but can't remember where they ended up after the last mov...

Re: 10/22 front sight
Rick, is really an integral part of the barrel, or a shrink fit installed hot like the front site on the 77s?
