Re: no sparks!
Case hardening is actually the adding of carbon to steel, generally done with a heating the metal to a specific tempature while it is surrounded by a high carbon content material (think charcoal briquets). Work hardening is similar to case hardening in where a repeated action causes the material to...

Re: 204 ruger vs 220 swift vs 22-250?
I made it 1/2 way thru the 2nd page on that link before I puked so I must be getting better. That's exactly how far I made it also. I won't be running over to that site anytime soon. I've thought more than once there's sure a bunch of nice, helpful and respectful guys over here compared to most oth...

Re: The REAL Varmints are at it again.............
I hear you.. It makes me so mad when I hear about this topic. It would be horrible to protect them because it will just cause more soil erosion and hurt grasslands. Also, when cattle step in the holes it can hurt them. And people, and horses. One gazillion acre ranch I cowboyed on a couple years ag...

Re: Temperature stability of burn rates
I don't know about specifics, but a certain line of Hodgedon's are advertised as being very temperature insensitive. Two are Varget and Benchmark. It's mentioned on their site, maybe you could get technical info by Emailing them?

Re: Oh no.. A cleaning question.
If you want 99% any drug store pharmacy will order it for you if they don't have it in stock. If I remember right it was about as cheap as the 80-90%.I use Isopropyl Alcohol with the highest Isopropyl content I can find(80%-90%).

Re: cost of reloading the 204
btw I ordered the lee turret press Hopefully you ordered the newer Classic model. It's a MAJOR improvement in many ways over the older turret. Personally, I think a guy saves mucho bucks by reloading. Not that I'm old, :) but I started reloading in about 1970. After dropping out of it for a number ...

Re: Oh no.. A cleaning question.
I've found you always need to hit your brushes with a cleaner. Once I neglected to clean one and the copper solvent reacted with the brass core (even though the bristles were nylon) and a while later it looked like a corroded automotive battery terminal---the green stuff. To wash the solvents and cl...

Re: new stock & new toy (pics)
For a good all-around plinking load I like 6.8 grains of Hodgedon Titegroup with a 250 gr. bullet. There's a site called (I think) Sixgunners.com or Sixshooters.com and if it's still around and you go to John Linebaugh's 45 LC Ruger section there's some real fascinating loading info for Vaqueros. As...

Re: Need a load for 22-250!
I use 50 and 55 grain Sierra BlitzKings with my 22-250 for prairie dogs and they work great. Any special reason why you want to use the heavier bullets? I think one of the main reasons Sierra doesn't recommend the MKs is because they don't expand well and overall just aren't designed at all for shoo...

Re: Chronographing
Thanks from me too, Silverfox. Never had one, but I just ordered one and it should be here Tuesday and your setup advice is more helpful than the manual I read a couple days ago on the Chrony website. I really don't care to blast a hole through it the first time I put it to use. For what it's worth,...

Re: I am going to need some help soon..
If they are the Lee 1000 (takes a 3 or 4 die holder), then you might be able to get it to work for reloading the .204. Unfortunately you can't use the Lee Pro Auto Disc powder measure with the 204 caliber without modifying your program a bit :) . The case necks are so small in diameter that half th...

Re: Distance to lands
But what I am saying is that unless you weighed every case to have less variance in weight than the powder charges, weighing the cartridges will not tell you how much the powder weighs inside the cartridge. Good point. I appreciated the advice, but in my case it didn't work out anyway because it tu...

Holy Crap, stupid me! Thanks Skipper! They're the same everything except powder weight. My wife has a scaled postage meter (platform type) that would be perfect for that.

Re: Distance to lands
one suggestion to avoid such problems: all loads with the same powder, bullet, etc should be marked in some way and notes put in your ammo box. so you can avoid these kinds of problems. That's exactly what I did as always, but when Fatso knocked the closed box on the floor upside down all shells fe...

Re: can target shooting start a fire?
Oh man that's for sure. We have one going right now halfway from town to the Yellowstone east entrance. I went fishing along the river basically in the fire-zone yesterday and as luck would have it I was right where the two Erickson Air Cranes were drafting river water up their snorkels. Those babie...
