Re: .308win 155 g A-Max for hunting Deer?
Hi Everyone A big thanks to everyone who added their comments regarding my initial question / post. Granted, the decision to use the 155g A-Max for deer isn't perhaps the best, but it certainly proved fruitful and I got my 'Staggie'. Considering that the A-Max isn't marketed as a huntin' bullet, bu...

Re: Second Heavy Varmint rifle 22-250 or 6.5mm
Hi TD-Max Personally I would go with the 6.5mm for the windy conditions and long-range shots...you can have some fun wacking those little rat buggers all the way out to 1000yards (if you can still see them at that distance  ). Sako do the Sako 75 Synthetic Stainless in 6.5x55 swede. If Beretta ...

+1 for the advice given by Baja_Traveler. Simply remove the de-priming rod/pin from within the full length die and you'll be good to go!

Re: Here is one.....
Hi Song Dog I have a Howa 1500 Varmint, 24" Heavy Barrel, Hogue Overmoulded stock, .308win. I love this gun, it shoots like a beast! For the money I would forget buying a remington personally! My Howa loves 155g Hornady A-Max's and 44.0g VARGET. Alternatively it also loves the 168g Berger VLD ...

Great story, pics and write-up...awesome mate!!
That certainly looked like a tough shot...not something I would want to try at my 'newbie' stage of my hunting career
Congratulations again!
All the best

Re: How many rounds?
Kenbrofox I use the same method as OldTurtle , it seems to work the best for my needs. I had tried Audette's ladder and it is a great system but I found it only really works if you shoot the ladder at 300 yards or more. I don't have the luxury of a 300 yard range where I can do my 'load testing', s...

Re: .223 loads
Hi majcl5
What twist is your son-in-law's .223?
I haven't tried the 40g V-Max but my Savage VLP 1 in 9" twist loves the 69g Sierra Matchking over 24.0grains of VARGET. Alternatively, i'm getting great success from the same bullet but stoked up with 25.5grains of H4895.
Hope this helps.

Got my 1st Red Stag
Hi Everyone Firstly, a big thank you to all who gave me assurance about using 155g A-Max's for hunting. I know that it's NOT a hunting round, but after hearing some good reports of how well the round performed, I too am now a subscriber...I have the head to prove it  I flew up to the highlands ...

Re: .308win 155 g A-Max for hunting Deer?
Acloco and Guy M Thanks for your responses! I know that the A-Max isn't the best round for hunting but it's all I have and know that I get great accuracy with them! I shall take what you say on board and stick it in the heart/lung area. Even if the jacket does 'explode', all those little shards sho...

.308win 155 g A-Max for hunting Deer?
Hi everyone I have been fortunate enough to be invited to join my cousin on a Red Stag hunt in the Highlands, nothern Scotland. I am going to take my .308win Howa and it's favourite load of 155g A-Max over 44.0grains of VARGET. I get consistant groups (around 0.7"s or smaller) when i do my par...

Re: Switching from Naked to Moly bullets
Jim White & Rick in Oregon Thanks guys for the further advice about humidity and wet weather oxidizing with the Moly. Where I live, it's pretty wet alot of the time and I do tend to make a point of cleaning my guns after use - I don't really want rusty rifles - so i'm not that keen about leavin...

Re: Switching from Naked to Moly bullets
Thanks for all your advice everyone! Jim White: I shall get some Kroil and Shooters Choice as you suggest and ensure that I give it a proper clean! I appreceiate the tip :D Sidewinderwa I had heard about the need to stoke the charges a little more to compensate for the loss in velocity with Moly. I ...

Re: Switching from Naked to Moly bullets
acloco Yeah, I find writing the charge weights, bullet type, primers, seating depth etc in to my 'Reloading book' and on the cases themselves is the best and safest way of keeping track of what i'm doing and what my guns like! Thanks for the tip with your load! I am just about to begin playing with...

Re: Do I get a Schmidt or 2 Nikon Monarch Tacticals?
Thanks for the advice :wtg: You are quite right, my standard of shooting probably doesn't require a Schmidt, however they are bloody nice and i'll get one at some point :hic: To my aging eye, I found the Bushnell 4200 Elites to be a tad sharper and clearer than both my Nikon Monarchs. The Monarch tu...

Switching from Naked to Moly bullets
Hi everyone I recently bought 200 70g Lapua Scenars to play with in my .223rem, however I was sent 100 moly coated bullets by accident. I was just wondering whether i should give the barrel a good clean through when switching from the copper jackets to the moly? I want to try both Naked and moly wit...
