Re: Re entering reloading looking for advise
I started with a $10.00 Lyman kit that you used a hammer to do the operations In 1964. Since then I have had Lyman, RCBS, and now use a Forester press and would not trade it for anything. The only other press I would like to have is a DIllion 550 for my handguns. In my opinion the Forester Co-ax can...

Re: 204 Midsouth 34grn
The 204 I have now is my third one and I have use Midway and Midsouth 34 grainers in all of them. I also used BLc-2 with most of them, also have tried other powders but went back to BLc-2. I had a Ruger 77T that got me to two second places and 1 first place at an egg shoot at 200 yds. My current 204...

Re: M77 204 Report
Clint E I have a 77VT just like yours and it is one of the best shooters I have ever had. I load 32gr V-Max and BLc-2 max load or near to it. It will shoot .2 to .3 C. to C. 5 Shot groups and has shot my best group of my life .171 Center to center at 100yds. I have a cheap 6.5 to 20X50 with 1/8 targ...

Re: Actual MV of factory loads?
I got around 4125 from a 26 inch Savage FV, and about the same from a 26 inch barrel on my Encore. This is from Hornady 32 gr VMax and in my sons 26 Savage it was a little higher about 4150 to 4160. This is the same reading I get from my hand loads, 31 gr of BLc-2 and 32 gr Vmax. This is a little ov...

There is more of a concentration of knowledge about Savages here than anywhere else you can look and it is easy to find, just ask.giterdone wrote:Everything you need to know about building a Savage piece by piece and where to find/buy it is on http://www.savageshooters.com

Re: First .204 loads, too fast to be true?
Fred I have 2 204s a Ruger 77VT and a 26 inch barrel on my Oncore. I have been getting an average of 4125 to 4135 with 31.0 Grains of BLc-2 and the 32 gr Vmax . That is the same as I get from factory Hornady loads. I had worked up to this and the 30.7 max load was not much slower so I dropped back t...

Re: Group Size
I agree with what the others said don't let what others post discourage you. With that said, I am real happy with my Ruger 77 VT and I also have been reloading since 1965. The best 5 shot group at 100yds. I have been able too shoot with it is .168 but I have not been able to match that again, close ...

Re: Primer ?s
The CCI 450 is a Mag primer and has a thicker metal cup. It is what I have used in my 204s and have had no primer problems. Some people have had problems with the 400s and other primers with them splitting.

Re: Remington XR-100 RANGEMASTER Opinions???
Mark I guess I am lucky as I have an Oncore with the factory barrel and after sending it back for head space problems it shoots close to my Ruger 77VT. I use the 32 V-Max and 34 gr. Dog town with BLc-2. I am getting 5 shot groups in the .2 s and .3 s with both guns. Both of my guns seem to do better...

Re: Well I hate to do this but I have to.
I guess I am really lucky as I have a Ruger 77-17 and a 77 VT and both shoot really well. The 17 will put them all in one hole if I do my part, and the best group with my 77 204 at 100 yds. 5 shots in .168 center to center with the 32 gr Vmax. I have done nothing to the Ruger 77 VT but shoot it and ...

Re: Velocitiy
Thanks Arizona Hunter I have worked up to the load I am now using ( 31gr BLc-2 which is .3 gr over max) .2 of a gr at a time. Both of my 204s are 26 inch barrels and it gives me 4125 fps. in both the same as factory ammo, this is with 32 gr V-Max. I don't seem to have any pressure signs in either gu...

Re: Velocitiy
I also have a How 1500 (Varminter Supreme) I use RL 15 for 32 and 40 V-Max. With the 32's it loves 28.6 gr for right at 4000 fps. (29.0 gr gets 4100 but not as accurate). For the 40 gr. V-Max it loves 26.8 gr. of RL 15 for 3640 fps. Crazy said the BLC2 builds pressure fast and I have to agree with ...

Re: Need a Starting Point on the 204 KM77VT Target Rifle
I have the same gun. I have been using 32 grain V-Max and 31 grain of BLc-2 with CCI450 primers. THIS IS OVER MAX but 2 of my guns like it and my best group with the Ruger is .168 C to C for 5 shots at 100yds. This was early one AM and a windless morning so it is not the usual but not too far off. C...
