Re: Recommendations for getting started?
Lyman makes a pretty inexpensive flash hole reamer. You can get the primer pocket uniformer and brush from RCBS. I use a RCBS electronic case prep machine that has stations and the tools I mentioned above take the same threads so I can use it on my machine. It's a little pricey I guess but it saves ...

Re: 40 grain V-Max and 1-12 twist barrels
My CZ loves 32 V-max; hates 40 V-max. Loves 40 Ballistic tips; hates 32 Ballistic tips....go figure!

Re: 204um Praire Dog Postal Shoot
Got my target in the mail the other day. Thanks Waldo! At what yardage do I shoot the target and also the tie breaker? Also, 3 or 5 shots? Thanks!

Re: Group sizes while working up a load?
Sometimes if I put 3 bullets in the same hole I stop before I get too proud and screw it up

Re: Burris/Nikon Advice!
The Monarch is very clear and a great scope for the money. It has lots of MOA adjustment so you can use it real long range especially with the burris signature ring inserts with built in MOA. All 3 scopes you mentioned are very very nice scopes. I really like my nikons!

Re: I need a new scope for a new rifle.
I'm not sure what your terrain is like but I would definitely go with as large a variable as possible with a 40-44mm objective to keep size and weight down, but there is no need to limit your glassing capability--especially on varmints like coyotes or groundhogs that may be on your side of the field...

Re: Switching barrels/calibers
Oh and I like to light them up with a 32 or 55 grain v-max. But they go out pretty quick!

Re: Switching barrels/calibers
Interesting. I've just re-finished a sporterized m95 mauser 6.5 and am excited to try some test loads at the range. Are you planning to shoot the 142 a-max? Mine won't take the hot loads that yours will but it will work ok for deer with either a 129 btsp or 125 partition.

Re: Switching barrels/calibers
The nice thing about the savage actions is you can easily switch barrels and headspace yourself at home with a action and barrel wrench and a set of go/no go gages in a matter of minutes. No gunsmith required.

Re: Switching barrels/calibers
You're kinda correct :D All actions including Savage are short (308 win, 223 rem, 300 wsm examples) and long (30-06 based cartridges ect), and some long magnums like 300 rum etc. If you wanted to go from say 204 ruger to 308 win, you could use the same action but you would have to change out the bol...

Re: Which CZ 204 Varmint 527 or Regular 527
The barrel on the varmint barrel is also about 4 inches longer so you will get a bit more zip and won't heat quite as quick as the thinner version. The little bit of weight should also help you shoot steadier freehand w/ sling.

Re: Armadillo!
I shot an unlucky armadillo outside warner robins, ga with my 17hmr, prior to the 204 coming about. Bet a 32 V-max could provide much more entertainment...wonder how high they can be launched??
