Bullet choices and my dilemma..

I have tried almost every available factory load in my Tikka .204, the best so far is the 39grain Blitz king, the worst is the 40 grain Hornady. I see now there is a 45 grain Berger, is it available in a factory load? More importantly, from what I understand the 40 grain Hornady did not like my gun ...

Re: Cooling Your Rifle's Barrel

I use an aerator from a minow bucket, a new one of course.
They come with a foot or so of rubber hose that slides nicely in to the chamber, the diaphram pump creates no moisture and very little noise.

Re: First time groundhog shooting, tips please! (added photos)

I think my position on the reloading is a bit different than most. The main reason I do not want to reload is because I am way too anal about variables. Case weights, humidity of powder storage, whether a box of primers was shaken more than another, if leaving the lid off the powder one night is goi...

Re: First time groundhog shooting, tips please! (added photos)

Pydpiper: How do you like the Tikka? How does it shoot? I love the rifle! It has proven it's self to be an outstanding shooter. It took a lot of time and money to find which factory ammo it likes, but once it settled in on one I can not imagine a reason to reload for it. Mine is chambered in a .204...

Re: First time groundhog shooting, tips please!

That was fun! The .204 certainly didn't let me down, I had a great success ratio on the little things.. My favorite shot was 300 yards right on the nose, rolled one over eating dandelions, when I got to him all 4 feet were standing straight up and the dandelion was still in his mouth. I also, for th...

Re: First time groundhog shooting, tips please!

Thanks for the tips guys! Well, all except for the one about putting my camo in manure.. :chin: I will be bringing my Tikka .204, and a couple hundred rounds of 39Grain BK's. Only a day or two to go, and I am pretty excited! I have been seeing a lot of coyotes here lately but we are smack in the mid...

First time groundhog shooting, tips please! (added photos)

I am heading out in a couple weeks with a deer hunting buddy, we bow hunt together. He has invited me to join him on a 2 day groundhog shoot on some farms near Varney Ontario. Here is the thing, I have a great rifle for the job due to my predator hunting addiction, but thats about the extent of my p...

Re: Tikka T3 .204 Ruger

I can not comment on the US importation stuff, I reside in Canada. :D
I a have not had any extraction issues either, in the beginning the magazine refused to load up a second round, it only did that twice in the first ten rounds, never again. Likely user error.

I am thinking of getting my son a HM2, I have a HMR and love it for what it is.
The report of the HM2, much different than the HMR?

Re: Tikka T3 .204 Ruger

I do. I have the T3 Varmint, stainless. I love the gun, without going custom it seemed to be the most reliable rifle I could find, I did a whole lot of reading before I took the plunge. It is a daily shooter for me, I do wildlife/predator control for a living and always have the rifle with me. It sh...

Re: Mounting an Elite 6500 to a Tikka

For all my scope caps I apply a very thin layer of Nyogel to the threads, it makes the run very smooth and keeps them water tight. I originally bought the stuff to use on the threads of my high end flashlights and have had great success, I would recommend it for any aluminum to aluminum contact. htt...
