Barrel life on the .204?

On thing I found intriguing when I went after a varmint rifle was claims that the .204 would have a longer life due to the fact that it uses less powder. I doubt I will shoot the gun out but I recently heard that it has a shorter than average life span, anyone care to explain this to me?

Re: 204 Cleaning Questions

I just received my Dewey rod/brushes/mops and jags right from Dewey. The whole batch cost about $50 to have it shipped to my door here in Canada, a very fair price. Haven't had a chance to use it though, my Lucas bore guide wont be here for a couple more weeks. The Dewey rod came as "20cal/22LR...

Re: 39 grain sierra's

My Tikka spit the 40 grain Horandy's out in a way that made me think there was a problem with my gun.
I switched to the 39 grain Sierra and never looked back. I ordered a case from my dealer, a case of the Sierra's, they worked that much better.

Re: Coyote pups

No, I don't know enough about them.
I do wildlife control for a living, have for 10 years, this was the first baby fox I have encountered.

Re: Anybody else using the Otis cleaning system?

Well, the Dewey stuff is on it's way and Mike Lucas will be making my Bore guide and shipping it in a week or two. I must say of all the sports/hobbies I participate in the people in this sport hold nothing back when it comes to offering help. Mike Lucas was great to deal with, as was Brian Dewey. I...

Re: Anybody else using the Otis cleaning system?

Thanks rick, I have been waiting for you.
They do not have a nylon brush for the .204, Dewey I mean.
Are you saying no bronze?

Re: Anybody else using the Otis cleaning system?

Dewey brushes are good too? Done.
What about their bore guide, should I just get a Lucas?
Patches, what size for a .204, they do not have it listed, 3/4 and 1 3/8 are my options.

Re: Anybody else using the Otis cleaning system?

I just got off the phone with a southern gentleman named Lucas, apparently he is pretty good with bore guides. Now I need a rod, where do I get one? who makes the best? *EDIT* I am on the Dewey web site, I have a 42" rod and pointed jag on order, is there anything else I need? Jag (pointed?) 42...

Re: Anybody else using the Otis cleaning system?

Looks like I am going to have to make a trip over the border, my local shops just don't seem to have what I need.
A bore guide should be a simple thing to find, it's not.

Re: Anybody else using the Otis cleaning system?

I am finding the more I use the Otis the more I like it.
I have ordered a 1 piece rod and am patiently waiting for it, in the meantime I am doing a lot of shooting through a new barrel so the Otis is getting it's share of use.

Random questions

I don't want to start a new thread for every question, so I will put a few here then I can settle down for a bit. :D 1. Cleaning between 2 different rounds? When I am at the range trying different ammo out is it OK to just use a snake or should I run the whole cleaning process between brands or bull...

Re: Got my Cooper...

Beautiful rifle!
Another scope to consider is the new Bushnell 6500 series, most that hold one say it is above the quality of Leopold, unfortunately so is the cost.
It is worth a look.
