Re: A bit perplexed?

I have only shot factory loads, reloading is in my future and I will keep the info you gave me handy. I am getting such good results from the Sierra's it will be hard to try to beat them.

Re: A bit perplexed?

I get horrifying groups from the V-Max's(1 1-1/4"), that is why I tried the BK's, they group very well out of this gun. Now, after reading what you guys have said, I can't help but wonder if I was looking at an exit hole, not an entrance? I just imagined more blood from an exit. This groundhog ...

Re: A bit perplexed?

My photos came out horrible, my kids opened my waterproof camera while it was underwater.. I got some though, a bit purple. Tell me more about the Berger's, are they a FMJ? I squished and squeezed this little fellow today when I went back, not a whole lot feels out of place in there. That first hole...

A bit perplexed?

Wasn't sure where to put this.. 2 weeks ago I was in a rifle shoot competition, my .204 and I walked away with first prize :D . However, when leaving the range we all had a chuckle at a great big ground hog on the range, 100 yards out eating away during all the shooting. I set up my shooting sticks,...

Re: Mounting an Elite 6500 to a Tikka

Thank you.
I ended up using a set of Burris Steel mounts, low. I got the height I was hoping for, like you said, 3-5mm, I am very pleased.

Re: Scope of choice

I chose Bushnell (6500's), However, I have never had the opportunity to look through a Nightforce. My unbiased quest to scope my 204 led me to a large shop in London, they had a nice selection of high end scopes to compare. When they realized what I was after they brought a table outside and laid ab...

Mounting an Elite 6500 to a Tikka

I just brought home a spanking new Bushnell Elite, 6500 2.5-16X42 for my .204, it is beautiful!! I need rings, I like the thoughts of the Sako Optilocks because of what I have read about them so now I need to know what size rings to get to get this scope as close to the barrel as I can. I was hoping...

Taking a moment to brag

Thought I would take a break from my neighborhood fox, give him a chance to forget about all the whistling sounds going over his head and post a couple photos of my son on the range. I bought him this rifle when he was 4, he is 5 in the photo, turned 6 this weekend. It is a Cricket, .22 bolt, single...

Re: Why am I missing?

Looking back I wish I had left my scope alone and set up a box where that fox was standing (laughing at me) just to see where I was hitting. I am confident now that I was shooting high. I got up this morning and brought the scope to 1/2" high at 100 yards. I don't really see many 300 yard shots...

Re: Why am I missing?

I will back the scope down an inch today, I was thinking that having it set at 1.5" high I should still be on target with a fox.. Huntsman, I didn't try holding under because I didn't know I was shooting over. At first I thought I was underestimating the range. I was shooting straight down rail...

Why am I missing?

If this post doesn't scream "newbie" I don't know what does. I am a fairly experienced shooter, but very new to the 204. I am shooting a Tikka varmint with a 16x scope. I bring it to the range a lot, consistently do 1/2" 3/4" groups at 100 yards with a bi-pod. I hunt near my hous...

Re: Manually cooling a barrel?

Thanks, I will try that. I recall a friend spraying some kind of fluid down the barrel of his Sako, I think it was carburetor cleaner?
I wasn't going to try it, it just made me think there may be a better way.
I like the more guns idea, I just needed to get this one shooting straight.

Manually cooling a barrel?

Sighting in my gun today and got wondering if there was any way to cool it faster than to simply refrain from shooting. I had to take a 1/2 hour break when I really didn't have time for one.
