Re: I need some group diagnostic help
I have been chasing animals with my stick and string for the past few months so the project was put on the back burner. I finally bedded the action last week and took it out for a test run yesterday. Here are some results. Before http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v16/junfan/Shooting/5-17-09%20223AI/...

Re: .223 AI???
I am a little behind in this conversation but I am a huge proponent of the .223AI. Mine started life as a Savage 12FV and now has a 22" 1:12 sporter weight barrel with a .223AI chamber set up for calling coyotes. acloco was a tremendous help and walked me through the process of conversion and l...

Re: 22/204 AI or 222 Mag AI with heavy bullets?
Interesting concept. I would probably start with Varget or something with a simmilar or possibly a little slower burn rate.

Re: 223 Ackley Improved
I have not had a chance to shoot a coyote with my .223AI and 60gr pills but I hope to remedy that this weekend. I am getting 3640 with 52gr HPBT and H4895 with acceptable accuracy out of a 22" tube. Benchmark and TAC have done well with lighter bullets and will speed the 40gr BT at 3855. Varget...

Re: 6.5 x 284
I hunted with a custom 6.5-06 for a number of years and it was my go to rifle for all NA game.....very impressive results. A number of years ago it was stolen   and I am still ticked off about it. When I replace it I will be getting a 6.5x55AI built as I feel the brass is easier to come by...

Re: Does anybody use the nosler 55 gr BT ?
The 55gr BT is a tougher bullet than say the 55gr V-Max or Blitzking. At .223 velocities it is an extremely good coyote bullet and of the choices listed the 55gr BT would be my pick. Another great 55gr bullet for coyotes is the Sierra Gameking 55gr SBT #1365. It has a tougher construction being a Ga...

Re: I need some group diagnostic help
An update for those still interested. After checking the bedding, replacing the screws in my front base and cleaning up the crown I finally made it back to the range. Groups are more consistent than before but I am still seeing the same three in one hole and two in another phenomenon. http://img.pho...

Re: I need some group diagnostic help
Thanks for the information. Through my trouble shooting with the rifle I took the scope off and checked the bases. The front base screws felt loose so I attempted to remove them to find they were stripped. It seems the screws were too short and only grabbed with about 1/16" of thread which gave...

Be patient. I have seen your post all over the boards and that is the general theme which I agree with. My the way, not a very good way to make a first impression.

Horizontal Group Strings??
I have been seeing horizontal group strings with a newly barreled rifle and was wondering what the typical causes are. Below is an example of what I am talking about.

Re: I need some group diagnostic help
The barrel is free floated and there is no contact. I am shooting under a shaded awning and the ammo is single fed prior to each shot.

Re: I need some group diagnostic help
Ok, I performed some of the checks mentioned above prior to another frustrating trip to the range this morning. I checked the bedding and it seems good. I took the scope off and made sure the bases and rings were tight. I picked up a second scale to verify the loads were consistent. I went to the ra...
