Re: A Boy and a Trophy Bear
For those that may still be interested, we did not get a weight on the bear but I am confident it was over 500lb. The skull green scored just over 21" and may be the #1 bear ever shot in Oregon by a youth.

A Boy and a Trophy Bear
I started out the day taking my daughter out to shoot my deer under the Oregon Mentor program. We hiked to a rocky knob over looking a drainage where deer frequently travel. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v16/junfan/Hunting/October%202010/DSC00086.jpg We saw a half dozen does and fawns, but nothi...

Nosler Ballistic Tips, Noticeable Changes
First of all, I am not trying to start a bullet war just wanting to point out some noticeable changes to the Nosler Ballistic Tip and some of my observations. When the Nosler Ballistic tip came out and up until recent times they were known as a quick killer, but many complained they were "soft&...

Re: What were they thinking?
I am a Civil Engineer and have on multiple occasions offered my services but they always seem to know best. I offered to review the plans and was turned down, I offered to design their drain field and septic system a few years back and was turned down. Before too long this place will look great but ...

What were they thinking?
Our local range has a 200 yard range and next to it a longer range out to 600 yards. The officials decided to do some improvements to the 200 yard range which could have been a good thing. The start the process three weeks before rifle season opens in these parts which forces everybody to the three ...

Oregon Ram Down!
I get a call from a good friend and hunting partner earlier this year and he asked what caliber would I like to have for sheep. I stated the 270 WSM would be at the top of my short list, why do you ask? He said I drew my sheep tag and I proceeded to curse and congratulate him. He buys a new 270 WSM ...

Winchester 70 Extreme Weather SS or Kimber 8400 Montana
I am looking for a solid, all weather 30-06 and have narrowed my search to the Winchester 70 Extreme Weather SS or Kimber Montana 8400. I have handled the Winchester a little and it feels a little thick in the stock but not horrible. I have yet to get my hands on the Kimber and may have to make a tr...

Re: .243 Powders?
Rick, thanks for the info. I am going to be loading for my daughter (10 now) so she can take a blacktail under the mentor program. I have had great luck with both of those bullets out of the 6mm but a buddy picked her up a Winchester M70 youth to use....I am jealous.

.243 Powders?
I have not loaded for the .243 in a long time, most of my time has been spent with the 6mm. I was thinking about Varget for 85gr HPBT and something like H414, W760, H4350 or RL17 for 95gr BT. Any recomendations and personal experiences?
