Re: 204 OAL help needed

It is entirely possible to have that much gap to the rifling. Each rifle (chamber) is a rule unto itself that way. Two things to keep in mind when loading for an AR. #1 is magazine length: if you have a long throat it may not be possible to seat the bullets as far out as possible and still be able t...

Re: runout & Redding dies

It refers to loads not being concentric - what you might call "wobble factor". If the bullet isn't centered in the bore when fired, accuracy usually suffers. For hunting rounds, .005 is said to be OK, for varmints, .003 and serious shooters strive for .001.

Re: runout & Redding dies

My fired cases measure .230 for neck diameter - guess I'll give the folks at Redding a call and hear what they have to say. Even with all that run-out my rifles is shooting 3/8" 5 shot groups with one load so far, but they opened up with longer bullet seating. Go figure! It is a Savage LRPV and...

runout & Redding dies

After running a series of loads using different seating depths, I decided to check for run-out. Talk about an unpleasant surprise! I found I was getting anywhere from .005 to .01 using RCBS dies. Someone mentioned on this forum that this was likely to happen. I am now thinking very hard about gettin...

Re: ...the continuing saga...

For my test loads I started with Hornady V-Max bullets and loaded 2.25" oal. I just used the same seating die setting with the Bergers and because they are HPs without the tip they came out shorter.

...the continuing saga...

It finally warmed up enough to shoot some more groups today without shivering too much. Been playing with a load consisting of a Berger 35 HP, 27.0 H335 and CCI450 primer in my new Savage LRPV. The load shoots 5 shot groups under 1/2" if I do my part and I wanted to check out seating depth as m...

Sounds like a really nice goody. Hope it shoots as good as it sounds like it should. One of life's pleasures is wringing out a new rifle...

Re: WW 760 in .22-250

My rifle likes 42.0 grains behind the Remington 55 HPPL bullet with a CCI200 primer for 3700 fps. Sporter weight (Shilen #2) 24" barrel, averages under 3/4" 3 shot groups at 100 yards. My barrel is long throated and this is a max load, so work up to it.

I have used them for many years in my 223 and so far for all my 204 loads. They're good stuff.

Re: Progress report - Savage LRPV 204

Got out to the range again today confirm the load (side note: this winter when we get a 25 degree day it's WARM). Fired four more five shot groups. Went like this: 3/8"; 7/8" - horizontal string, probably operator error; 5/8" - a 3/8" group with a called flyer that opened it up; ...

A method that I've heard about (can't vouch for it - never tried it - but it sounds OK) is dipping the neck and shoulder in molten lead. Seems like it ought to work...
