Re: Powder question
Thanks all for the information. I pulled the bullets poured the powder back in the can and resized the brass. The important question now is: Do I have a pound of trash, fertilizer, or pyrotechnic display?

Powder question
Was reloading 270 today using IMR4350. Opened a 1# can that's been on my shelf for a number of years and when I poured the powder into the powder measure there was a considerable amount of very fine brown dust. It actually left a bit of residue in the plastic tube of the measure when I poured the re...

Re: Upgrade to digital scale system
I've got an RCBS set (scale and dispenser teamed up) and an old Lyman (LE1000 I think) scale and I like just the scale better. Set up your dispenser about .5 grain below your charge, put it on the scale and bring it up to weight with a trickler. I've found that to be quicker and more hassle free.

New 204
Picked up my new 204 Ruger varmint rifle this evening. It is a Savage Model 12 Long Range Precision Varminter - single shot action, left side loading port, untapered 26" barrel. The trigger is a huge surprise. Savage calls it their precision target trigger. Out of the box it breaks at 9 ounces!...

Re: 17HMR accuracy
It is a Ruger. Got over 200 rounds through it now and enough groups to have a reasonable data base. Had the trigger worked on and it breaks clean at just over 3# - don't think that's the issue... Yes it is VERY wind sensitive. I've quit taking to the range on windy days. Playing with sandpaper to fl...

17HMR accuracy
Got a brand new 17HMR (laminated w/24" target gray stainless bbl) and it is not as accurate as I hoped. Not real bad, but not real good either. Five shot groups at 100 yards are averaging about 1 1/8" to 1 1/4" and I'd like to be under 1". Been using Hornady and CCI V-max and CCI...

Rick - If they're close enough, dumb enough, and (most important) unlucky enough, I can occasionally get 'em with my six gun. Usually use the scoped rifle for a much higher success rate...

Re: Progressive volume reloading press for handgun?
Get the Dillon. Not just for volume but for quality too. If you do your part you will produce as good a round with the Dillon as with a single stage press.

Re: How much magnification do you use?
Been using a Leupold VX-III 6.5 - 20 on my 223 for some years. Use it more in the range of 12X to 14X than at higher power, but still want the full range. Use 20X often enough that it is worth having, especially for longer shots. It goes without saying that a really solid rest is important at higher...

Re: Pic of the Ultra lite Ruger 204...my rig and me
You won't find a better scope for a walking varminter than the Leupold VX-III 4 1/2 - 14. Crystal clear, easy eye relief, not too big, and just the right power range. Been using one on my 22-250 light sporter for years...

Re: Need a backup rifle.....any suggestions?
A Remington 700 in 223 is usually an accurate rifle. My synthetic varminter (24" heavy bbl) shoots 9/16" @ 100 yds consistently at 3400 fps and is a joy to shoot. Good prairie dog/whistle pig medicine.

Re: Longest revolver shot?
Got lucky last summer while after picket pin ground squirrels - got one at 40 yards using my Colt Buntline Scout 22LR with the regular fixed sights. Made me feel like Elmer Keith for sure. Later I was using a friends Hi-Standard auto with an Aim Point and was able to hit at about 80 yards, but that ...
