Re: neck sizing

I find a collet-type neck-sizing die the best option for me to neck-only re-size brass. Lee makes a very affordable one that works extremely well.

Re: Overpressure signs

Here's a good string on so-called pressure signs (including how useless they are; to be used only if one has absolutely nothing else):

Re: Acceptable Velocity Spread

I agree with Bill.

Ideas will come if you aren't getting the precision you're looking for.

Re: Which suppression do you use?

You’ll probably still want hearing protection. Suppressing a rifle from, say, 160db to 130db is great(!), but 130db is still very loud, and the supersonic shock wave off the bullet is also loud.

I like SilencerCo’s Omega, though it’s not designed specifically around small caliber rifles.

Re: How much neck tension you guys running?

You really can't get more than ~2 thousandths of neck tension. Any more than that and you're just resizing the necks when you seat the bullet, which is silly and invites things to get crooked.

I'm not a fan of bushing type dies. I like collet-type neck sizers better.

Re: Keeping brass bright

The only issue I’ve ever had with ss pin tumbled brass tarnishing is when I haven’t got the acid (lemi-shine) rinsed off completely. Maybe slower drying time exacerbates that.

Re: Velocity & Varget

Do you see ‘pokey’ speeds with factory ammo? I don’t use Varget so cant comment on that, but every factory 204 I’ve ever personally seen or fired shows speeds _way_ lower than what is claimed either on ammo boxes or in load manuals. Unfortunately , this does not necessarily indicate that one can jus...

Re: Powder names are getting to an almost confusing point

It's been my experience that Hodgdon's EXTREME line of powders has a green olive drab color. Up until this event, I had never powder in that line that wasn't. I purchased a 8-lb keg of H4198. The powder in the 1-lb jar I had initially purchased [and had used up] had the familiar GREEN look to it. W...

Re: Redding Bushing Die (Neck Sizing)

I’ll never argue whether one can or cannot get outstanding ammunition from a bushing neck sizer. If that’s what someone is arguing about, they don’t understand what the comparison between the two designs actually is. I must confess, though, that I find the notion that we size the necks of our cases ...

Re: Redding Bushing Die (Neck Sizing)

I have only 1 bushing-type neck sizer, and ended up with more bushings than I wanted for it basically because of the same desire for speed. That means I can’t fault you, Trek, but I do suspect you’ll be happier with the result if you measure. Rick’s bushing will _probably_ work for you, but maybe no...

Re: Redding Bushing Die (Neck Sizing)

Are you wanting to not measure the neck thickness of your brass? That’s the normal and appropriate thing to do.

Well, then it must certainly go back if that's the case and you're using new factory ammo. If handloads, this could still be a mis-match between sizing die and chamber, or a die setup issue, but I think I'd still contact Ruger to get it fixed.

Re: Ok guys tell me whats causing this?

Wait. If the cartridge drops completely into the chamber (rifle’s muzzle pointed straight down at the ground), the bolt simply comes up to the back of the case, the extractor snaps over the rim, and you lock the bolt. So you’re feeling a snug spot as you turn the bolt handle down to lock it? Or do t...
